Default Iraq Rakes in $80 Billion Oil Surplus

As my last off topic thread before the season starts, I offer this humorous article that tells how the Iraqis are sitting on $80 billion in the bank while your tax dollars rebuild their infrastructure (and our bridges collapse). Meanwhile, the United States is now a trillion dollars in the hole in Iraq (literally bankrupt). Remember in 2000 how Clinton announced the biggest surplus in U.S. history? It was $230 billion.

For those who are fans of Treasure of the Sierra Madre I leave you with this quote: "O laugh, Curtin, old boy. It's a great joke played on us by the Lord or fate or nature or whoever you prefer ... but whoever or whatever played it certainly had a sense of humor!"

Yeah, remember way back when...the US armed forces had just pummeled the Iraq army and every cynical democrat in the country didnt want us to profit off of any of the oil that came out of that country?

Thanks. Smart. Really smart.

So, you're saying that the whole Iraq thing for the neocons/repubs was to get oil profits?

Catch 22 invasion. Osama in Afgahnistan is responsible for 9/11. Therefore we must invade Iraq and topple Hussien. Perfectly logical.

No. I'm not saying that. That's what they said. "It's a war for oil!" was the cry. If thats what they believed, then they shouldnt complain when we dont share in the wealth of it.

Can we move this thread to WRP forum? It's begun with specific purpose of being a political pissing match.

The whole "war for oil" argument is still valid as proved by the recent opening of the nationalized (under Saddam) Iraqi oil fields to foreign companies. Namely, AMERICAN companies.

Yes, the Iraqis will collect their revenues, and kill each other over how to split them... but thats not the point... the point is now the fields are open for exploration by the large oil companies....and your tax dollars will foot the bill for providing the security of those private companies ability to drill for oil that was out of their reach for decades under the previous regime.

You think you're paying 4 bucks a gallon after 8 years of the "oil-iest" administration in history on accident? Mission Accomplished indeed.

For the money spent on this war, shouldn't we like own that country? I'm just saying.

We owned it before the war. The war was to give it back.

I don't feel like providing you with a free beginners course in economics today. If you PM me with an offer, I might be up for it (I don't work for less than $40 an hour, though, so I hope you've got a good cash reserve).

318 BILLION dollars a year spent on illegal mexicans in this country and you b**** about an 8 year war that is just now totalling 1 trillion dollars? We've spent 2.5 times as much on illegal's since the Iraq war started. That doesnt include the lost money from those ****s sending AMERICAN DOLLARS across teh border.

And it doesn't account for the loads of lost crops we had when no one would pick them. Nor the loss to construction companies when cheap laborers became unavailable. Damn illegals.

Actually, the funny part of this whole thing is how Congress is asking them to spend some of it. "Please, Mr. Maliki. Couldn't you withdraw a little of this to help us out?"

What was it Bush/Cheney/Rummy/Wolfowitz told us? They'll scatter flowers at our feet and their oil revenue will pay for the war?

Suckas!

Don't get all bent, people. I'm not being sarcastic. It's actually funny.

This news article made me incredibly angry. Our government needs to get its **** together, Republican or Democrat, I don't care. I'm hoping our citizens don't continue to stand idly by while our governments lies and fleeces the **** out of us.

Jesus Christ on a crutch. People will line up out the door of a Starbucks for the opportunity to pay $4+ for a double dipped, half slim, half soy, touch of cinnamon, touch of nutmeg, iced latte but will scream bloody murder over a gallon of gasoline. Christ the American crowd is an entitled bunch.

Now, if you're a working Joe who grabs a thermos full of good ole' black coffee before heading out to work, then by all means b**** on.

If you're a biscotti eating, latte sipping pretend friend to humanity "outdoorsy" type who spent the last 15 years pissing and moaning about domestic exploration and production you can take your self righteous tardlingering and pound sand.

Perhaps Iraq is taking the Japanese model of modernization. Let the Americans blow your **** into smithereens, then let the Americans build and modernize your country to compete on the world stage. I wonder what public discussion of the Marshall plan was like?
