Default With Lynch jumping ship...

I think this shows we are probably further away from being a playoff contender than many around here (including myself) want to believe. Obviously we don't know all the details, but if he is willing to leave his teammates and coaches in the middle of training camp, I think that shows we aren't ready to make that next step... IMO... Hopefully we can prove him wrong

How does him leaving because he isn't the best player on the team equate to this team not being ready. If John Lynch was the catalyst for making the playoffs then this team was screwed anyways.

I for one never thought we would be contenders this year but this has nothing to do with how good or bad they are.

my point is that I think Lynch would be more willing to stay in Denver and accept his 2 down role if we were looking like a playoff team..I think he would rather go play somewhere else/with the same/similar role and play for a "contender"..just a thought

Watch either of the Charger games or the Lions game from last year and you'd realize we aren't that close. He's willing to leave because he can't get any playing time, not because we aren't close to having a championship team. We will compete in a few years only if our drafts are proven strong and the young guys we've taken step up into leadership roles and are gamechanging players.

At this point in his career I think he could care less. My bet is he retires to TV or plays one last year in the hometown. But I doubt it has to do with him thinking the team sucks. Thats Bush league, or should I say, T.O. league or Eli Manning league regarding the Chargers. People with the respect that Lynch has don't do that in camp. He would have never come back period.

Just my opinion, but I think Lynch would walk even if he thought the team was going undefeated. He's been the Man/Leader pretty much his entire career. Can't do those things from the bench.

I'm actually starting to have a pretty good fricking feeling about this team (I reserve the right to change that feeling if Marshall gets a long suspension).

In 2005 our best players on the team were in there mid 30's

Now they are in there early 20's. We are a better younger hungrier team. Lynch is leaving because he is not good enough in coverage. He is great at stopping the run. But he does not have what it takes on 3rd down.

Don't Forget how bad we got rolled by GB in 96-amazing how quickly things can change in this game.

Agreed. I think he just calls it quits. CLEARLY john wasnt a player last year. He was constantly injured and he just wasnt a factor as a player. When that happens, its time to hang em up!
I love him as much as the next fan, but its time to move on.
To the poster who thinks this is a bad sign

Also, anyone who thinks that his moving on is a reflection of the team being dismal has it backwards.
If anything the team at the safety position has been apparently SO competitive, that John just wasnt able to keep his starting spot.
This is a positive, and how teams rejuvinate a position.
Its called, "may the best man win" and if DEN wasnt doing this, i and MANY others here would be pissed!
Competition at a given position breeds better players.
To Abdullah, Barrett and McCree and Manuel, "one player down 2 to go"
There here to compete dude.

Brilliant deductive reasoning!

Denver will make the playoffs this year. Mark it down.

The team and most importantly the defense will miss his leadership. Guys are really gonna need to step it up this year on defense now that the player/coach on the field is gone. That being said, I am not real worried about this season. I loved watching Lynch blow people up the last few years for us, but I'm not gonna lose any sleep over this.

I actually hope he does go into TV, rather than to another team.

Now that he's leaving, he's "great" again. Before, people were very critical of his coverage skills. I think one of the guys at the camp pointed out that teams would have just passed on downs that Lynch was in. He could no longer cover a TE or a RB. I remember in the Pitt game two years ago, Lynch was essentially a non-factor as a blitzer. Pitt just used a WR to block him and threw the ball where he wasn't.

No, it was time for him to leave after last year. The younger, faster Ss in camp will just have to move on without him. Don't you think there is some experience in that position?

I think this gives Rogers a shot at making the team, as well.....

I am not shedding tears over his departure, but iIagree wholeheartedly that he had a great 4 year run in Denver......

Damn, by that way of thinking more than half our team should quit for playing crappy and being injured.

It appears Lynch is pissed that he didnt get the full opportunity to compete like he was promised. Not allowing him to compete in nickel and dime packages. If they allowed him to practice in those packages and then he was told he was beat out I think he would be staying. Too bad I will miss his leadership and I am not to thrilled with the replacements.

Dallas Clark made Ian Gold his b***** last year.

God that brings back haunting memories of Ian being exposed in coverage.

the only thing that annoys me a little about Lynch leaving is that the team now has one less vocal leader on sundays. Someone needs to step up and fill that spot. On the field his play can be replaced. Truthfully his play last year was nothing special and he was sent to the pro bowl based on name alone.
