Default "system quarterback"

can someone explain to me how a player can be a system QB? how does being in a certain "system" allow any QB to get good numbers? it doesnt make sense, considering playing QB is about decision making and being able to consistently and accurately make throws...

A system quarterback is a quarterback who requires the "right" system be put around him to cover his weaknesses (for instance, adding a lot of bootlegs to keep a quarterback who can't pass in the pocket comfortable).

On the other hand, a franchise quarterback is the type that you can put in virtually any offense and they're going to flourish.

A system quarterback's weaknesses are eventually going to get exposed because defenses can gameplan to take parts of the game away from that quarterback and force him into situations that he is uncomfortable with.

A franchise quarterback's weakness is his ego: he sometimes gets a God complex out there, and forces throws. He can be his own worst enemy. Though Defense try to gameplan to take things away from him, but when they close one door, the franchise quarterback eventually kicks down another.

Eventually, a system gets built around a franchise quarterback because he's proven that he *is* the franchise, and management feels comfortable spending the time and resources to gear the team around him. This very rarely happens for the system quarterback, because they can't stay consistent long enough to justify the time and effort.

Wow. Good answer. End discussion imo.
