As per Shanny - gone for the year.

From Denverbroncos.com, Shanny's post practice presser.

Another Blip from DenverPost.com

EXTRA POINTS:@ Shanahan said rookie DT Carlton Powell of Virginia Tech is out for the year with a torn Achilles' tendon that occurred during offseason conditioning. ... Free agent TE Edell Shepherd was carted off the field in tears after injuring his right knee. "He might have torn an ACL today, but I don't know,"

You have to wonder if these guys push themselves too hard in the first practice, or if they let themselves get too slack during the off season. But this happens every damn year. It's odd/annoying.

Talk about a big bummer.

This sucks. Not a good way to start off the season.

I agree and it does seem to happen a lot with us... but it does happen to all teams as well.

I had hopes for Powell, too. Isn't he the DT who essentially did not allow runners to gain any yardage against him the entire season last year?

Oh well, there's always next year for him.

I was expecting him to come in and compete for time on run downs.

Pretty much though, our luck over the past 10 years has been horrible when it comes to this team and injuries. Basically this is par for the course.

I say trade.

Use one of the CBs, suck it up, and make a trade for a quality guy.
DEN is going to be in the same hole it was in last year if ONE more guy goes down for even just a short period of time.
DEN is just barely hanging on to begin with, and i figured Powell would get alot of playing time as a rookie!

Trade.
You know what really sucks? Larry Tripplett was just sitting there, but SEA scooped him up.
I say look at HOU and our good buddy ol kubes for a deal.
He drafted Moldin, but hes a rookie, and will need time. other than that they are thin.
So is CLE. But i doubt that CLE has any DT considering they run a 3-4 with one NT.

I don't know if any team in the NFL would trade two starters from the same position. For anything.

Grady Jackson. Booger McFarland.

Trade a conditionall pick, like a 6th to SEA for Tripplet. He gets to the QB.

Man, I had Powell playing. Not a full time starter, but i figured him to be playing alot this season simply because he fits the scheme, and DEN is thin at the position to begin today.

MALLARD?!?! Jeez.

Powell's young and raw and wouldn't have seen much playing time anyway. This obviously slows his development, but he should be able to recover from it. You gotta move on. I was expecting injuries today, but just not so many right out of the chute. Hopefully we can chug along.
