Brett Favre might want to invest in his own cell phone
By MJD

It's not as poetically idiotic as Chris Henry getting arrested while wearing his own jersey, but this one's in the same neighborhood.

Remember those tampering charges that the Packers filed against the Vikings? And remember how I thought it would be difficult for the Packers to prove that Favre had made inappropriate contact with the Vikings?

Well, that assumed that Brett Favre wasn't using a Packers-issued cell phone to make those calls to the Vikings. As it turns out, Favre may have done exactly that.

From the Minneapolis Star-Tribune:

...Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had an interesting bit of information in a piece he wrote about the quarterback today.

McGinn writes that a source said Favre had continued to use a Packers-issued cell phone and that when the team checked the phone records it found “repeated calls to coach Brad Childress and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.”

The possibility of Favre having used a phone issued by the Packers had been speculated on last week after the Associated Press reported that Green Bay informed the NFL it felt “an investigation of the phone records would show more than ‘normal contact’ between the Vikings and Favre, even before he formally asked for his release to play for another team.”

In fairness to Favre, it should be mentioned that any phone calls he made to the Vikings were made in a gunslinging fashion, and through the entire conversation, he looked like a kid out there, just having fun.

Say this turns out to be true, and tampering by the Vikings can be proved. And say that the Packers do what they're expected to do, and block Favre from playing for the Vikings. Favre could end up costing the Vikings draft picks and fines while never playing a down for them, while also putting the Packers in this miserable position.

Give him a couple more weeks, and he might just find a way to tear down the entire NFC North.

Favre: Walker is selfish

Brett Favre

By Todd Korth

Brett Favre says that the Green Bay Packers can win without Pro Bowl wide receiver Javon Walker.

Favre, reached as his home by a Green Bay newspaper, said that Walker is not showing that he’s a “team player” by skipping the recent post-draft mini-camp.
“If Javon wants to know what he quarterback thinks, and I would think he might, I’d tell him he’s going about this the wrong way,” Favre told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “When his agent tells him not to worry about what his teammates think and all that stuff, I’d tell him I’ve been around a long time and that stuff will come back to haunt you.”
Walker, entering his fourth season, is unhappy with his current contract, which expires in 2006. He is scheduled to be paid base salaries of $515,000 this season and $650,000 in 2006. Walker led the Packers last season with 89 catches for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named to the NFC squad in the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.
Walker, represented by agent Drew Rosenhaus, is among a handful of stars in the league who are holding out for more money. He is not expected to be at the June mini-camp and his holdout could last well into training camp.

“I just don’t see much good that can come from it. If it gets time for the start of training camp and he’s not in, I think it’ll start bothering him, and he’ll be here. But once again, nothing should surprise you.”

Favre feels Walker should be more of a team player and honor his current contract.

"Nowadays you're seeing more and more guys pulling that stunt," Favre said. "If guys continue to do that and are successful getting away with it, then I'll be gone, but I think the game will be ruined. My reaction to Javon's situation was, 'Here we go again.'
"Javon has tremendous potential. We got to see some of that last year. The sky's the limit for that guy, and I'd be the first to defend him, but he's going about it the wrong way. What happened to honoring your contract and saying, 'Let's work as a team to see if we can get this done?' Why not go about it that way? "Maybe I'm old-school, but I always thought you honor a contract. Sure, sometimes guys pass you up in salary, and maybe it's a lesser player, but it's all based on what a team has as far as value to a person. "I sure hope the Packers don't give into him," Favre said.

Seems Favre is helping the Packers when he might not even play another down for them. If he wants his legacy to stand as top notch, he needs to start contacting the Bears and Lions. That would be complete loyalty.

If the Pack really wants to have some bite, could this substantiate a "conduct detrimental to the team" punishment and a 4 game suspension without pay?

The Vikes would be smart to go after Favre....With T. Jackson under center they are barely a playoff contender despite all the other pieces they have. With Favre they quickly jump up with the Colts and Pats as the leading contenders for the Super Bowl.

I guess reading the article that the Viks would not only lose on Favre but lose draft picks too totally skipped this Chiefs' fans brain.
