Default What are you doing to beat the economic crunch?

Gas is sky high causing prices to raise on everything...

...I have been putting everything on a mileage card for free airline tickets (of course, there is always a "fee" on that.

...Only making "one" big trip to a store...or if I just need one or two items I would get at Target (across town), I'll get it at the grocery store even if it's a bit more expensive (It's only down the street)

...renting movies instead of going to movies...Blockbuster has a 3 movie/one six pack/1 tub of popcorn for 14.99.

I would ride bike if I didn't work 8.5 miles away and have to be there at 7!

...getting books from the library instead of buying them

...buying nonperishable items on sale

Seriously, my business is down about 75% so I feel it. I drive slower to save money on gas, growing my own garden will save me some money but is more satisfaction feeling. Not eating out hardly at all but if we do, we use the Entertainment Book. We didnt go anywhere for Memorial or 4th of July and going to Vegas for our Anniversary based on a free two night stay so staying at home is our vacation!
I notice that not too many people are doing the Disney trip this Summer as we normally get people over to the Angels games to see a pro team and not as many sellouts or interest since Summer came along. Team is one of the top 3 in the league so it isnt for being a bad product. Also, this is where movie theaters that charge less but run movies a month or two after its release can make it big time.

I will start with the Broncos game! Not as many people are buying the tickets like last year. I am lowering the price of some of the games by a few dollars and even though my profit will be about $15, it hopefully will keep me from losing money. You know those Chargers' fans. They go by how their team did the week before.

As a result of me going to a school in the fall that's the size of a football field, I am selling my car, and will not own one for 4 years. I'm really, REALLY happy about it.

We always drank and played pool at my house before hitting the bars. That way we saved money, had enough in us to have our white boy groove right when we got there and the beer helped us have the courage to hit on the pretty girls but not too much to start going after the 2am girls! This should be done regardless of the economy. Getting your game face on at home with the crew was always good times and easier to BS without competing with the DJ music. Damn, I really miss Sloppy Joes.

Bought an annual pass to disney, includes parking. So heading there more instead of heading out of state as much as I used to... Also started collecting pins instead of buying another car. Thank god for 35 MPG

What other things "could" you do...but aren't willing to give up?
One has to keep a few small pleasures in life!

...I'd put Bronco trips (Hogan trips w/room service) and great coffee in this category! Oh yeah, I did buy a new laptop too!

I'm lucky. My commute to my two main studios is less than 2 miles, and I also do a lot of work in my own facility. So, the SUV is still in play. Nice to have with the kids. We have a smaller sedan which I use if it's just me.

Other than that, nothing has really changed for me outside of fighting a tougher stock market than usual.

I feel bad for the folks out there losing their gigs. Just heard that Toyota will begin making Prius in America. So, there's at least one state that will get a little jobs boost.

This stuff is cyclical. It'll turn around.

I moved to China, where they subsidize gas and it is still really cheap to live. I pay $250 US for my apartment and food is really cheap. Oh and I don't have a car now so I am forced to use public transportation.

Let's see, taking a trip to Calgary next month, just bought our tickets to go see my wife's family at Thanksgiving, took a trip to Vegas last month, might go visit my buddy and his wife in Cali in late Sept. Anyways it's not the money, there is not much we can do that we weren't doing before as far as our day to day conservation goes, I've always been into conservation. My wife already carpools, I work from home and when I do run errands I combine trips or I ride my bike (more for exercise though). Have the A/C set at 75 during the day.

Not to get political, but since someone already upthread said they were for higher gas prices Democrat, I'll be voting for the people who actually want to open up drilling for more oil, more nukes and all other sources of energy (I'd like to see more cellulose non-corn ethanol, wind and solar as well). Conserve and find more supply = lower prices.

Just bought a classic Triumph Spitfire. Should get about 30 mpg. Have to put it back together though. Next month and a half project, but for $700 couldn't pass it up !!!
