I guess this pretty well tattoos the bust label on him. I remember there being some intrigue about him here before he was drafted - and a lot of national hype.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3481361 Jones faces felony drug charge, suspected of cocaine possession Associated Press Updated: July 10, 2008, 1:38 PM ET FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police say officers found him cutting up cocaine with a credit card Thursday morning. The 25-year-old Jones and two other men were inside a Toyota SUV in Fayetteville just after 12:40 a.m. Thursday when officers approached. Officers saw a card covered in a white powder in Jones' lap as he used a credit card to scrape it, a police report said. Officers opened the door and ordered Jones to put his hands in the air. According to the report, Jones kept his left hand out of view, forcing at least one officer to draw his handgun. Jones, 25-year-old Jared Hicks and 26-year-old Benjamin Cook were arrested. Officers say they searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag filled with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue. Officers questioned Jones and he acknowledged the white powder was cocaine, the report said. Jones was being held on $2,500 bond at the Washington County jail on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance. His arraignment was set for Aug. 11, two days after Jacksonville's preseason opener against Atlanta. The team was waiting to learn details of the case before commenting. "We're trying to investigate that now," Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver said of Jones' arrest. "We don't have all the facts. We will comment on that once we have all the facts." Officers say Hicks had a small plastic straw coated with suspected cocaine behind his ear. Both Cook and Hicks face misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. Neither was in jail Thursday morning, officials said. Jones was a star quarterback at Arkansas, throwing for 5,857 yards and running for 2,535. He was a first-round draft pick in 2005, but failed to develop into the go-to receiver Jacksonville thought he could be. Jones caught 77 passes for 1,075 yards and nine touchdowns in his first two pro seasons, but struggled in 2007. Coach Jack Del Rio became increasingly frustrated with Jones' demeanor and work ethic last season, making him inactive for three games. In the offseason, the Jaguars signed free agent Jerry Porter and traded for former first-round pick Troy Williamson. |

Now we know why he was able to run so fast at the combine...
Seriously, without the combine he would have been a 3rd or 4th rounder. |

Has anyone seen names on who was with him when he was arrested?
I'm just wondering if RhymesayersDU was somehow involved. Until he shows up here, I just have to assume he's up to no good. |

That's insane, but seriously dude, cutting it there in your car? Can you imagine the look on his face when the cop came up and tapped on the window then when he drew down on him?!

You'd think they would be smart enough to go to their freaking house instead of sitting in their car at 12:30 in the morning. Dumb-asses.

According to the radio when the cop saw him in the car he opened the door and told him to step out. Jones tried to hide his left hand that was holding the coke so the cop pulled his gun and ordered him out.

Maybe i should dig up some of the old posts of all the people around here that wanted the Broncos to trade for him. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a lot of the same folks that crucify Marshall for getting a speeding ticket. After all, in their mind, Jones is a "character guy" (i.e. white) whereas Marshall is a "no good thug" (black).

I wouldn't be surprised is Porter has a very good year. I mean, he's no Randy Moss, but look what he did when he got out of the abyss.

Personal I always liked Porter. He is a big, strong WR stuck in Oakland. Maybe he'll some now that he broke out of the trailor park by the Bay. I really like his game.

I wanted the Broncos to draft him in 2005.
The guy is an incredible athlete....but Jacksonville was/is always frustrated with his work ethic and attitude. Dude has probably been indoor skiing his paychecks away. |

I watched him play last year looking for his great speed which I didn't see but he played well in those games rhe reminded me of Easy ED. Big Strong guy that can run. I would not at all be opposed to signing this guy. I think could if not great he could be a very good palyer. The type of player that wins championshimps.
Of course this all comes back on him. Can he dedicate, can he sacrifice. Does he ever really want to try? |

Yah, too bad. I wanted the Broncos to draft him in the late first or early second round as a WR.
The guy has to be as dumb as a sack of potatos to get caught, in a car, at midnight, cutting cocain. That is career suicide. |

I'll admit that during his rookie year I did think he would be pretty good. Of course I didn't count on him pissing it all away.

It kills me that pro athletes can't stay out of trouble. Pay me that much money and I'd be one of two places. At the beach or working out.
