Default Pitbulls attack 90 year old - "The dogs were actually eating him alive"

This week's Pitbull mauling...

http://gothamist.com/2008/07/01/pitb...ling_90yea.php

Pitbulls Seized After Mauling 90-Year-Old Man on S.I.
Earlier today, a 90-year-old man was mauled by a neighbor's pit bulls. The victim, Henry Pitrowski, remains at Richmond University Medical Center in critical condition.

Reports say Pitrowski was attacked on his property. Another neighbor, Reginald Bell, told the Advance he went outside when he heard the elderly man's screaming. Bell said, "The dogs were actually eating him alive. He was mauled completely. His legs were eaten to the bone. His arms were eaten to the bone." After running home to call 911, Bell brought back a butcher knife to scare the dogs off the victim.

The dogs were tranquilized and removed from the house, and WNBC reports the owner is being questioned. According to WABC 7, "The dogs had ran through the back yards to Piotrowski's property. They escaped back home to their owner's house Newark Avenue, where police quickly arrived."

Recently, a bill preventing ex-cons from owning pit bulls, Rottweilers, and other fighting dogs was introduced to the State Legislature and a year and a half ago, City Councilman Peter Vallone proposed a ban on pit bulls.

There have been three or four major attacks here in LA in the past week or two, including a couple of them attacking a cop.

Problem is, cops get to carry guns around... we can't.

I have told this story before and i expect a little respect for My grandma Who has since passed away... But my cousin was living with her and brought in a pit ... she ask him to remove the dog and he refused ... a week later this happened ... there is no place in public for these animals and they should be banned .... I do agree it is how they are raised ... BUT with so many mixed and unknown past it is very hard to know what you are getting ...

The dogs should be put down and the owner should be charged with second degree murder.

My dog is quite mean. Has nothing to do with how he was raised but I am pretty anti-social and in general a loner. My dog hasnt even growled or loocked mean at my wife, kids, close friends, and close relatives but if he dont know ya he dont like ya. By the way this is an American Bulldog not a pit but you sure as hell dont want him after you. After we first moved in and told we needed to change the locks I was like ah it can wait a few day we were hit like 3 days later need less to say the garage door was up and the inside door open and my dog way laying in front of it when I got home from work. Nothing taken at all.

If you ban the dogs, the tools who raise them to be aggressive will just get a different breed that is equally dangerous. If you don't think that's possible, you're not informed on this topic. The breed has nothing to do with it, other than the fact that they attract idiots. Removing the breed does nothing to remove the idiots who want dangerous dogs.

I am not sure about banning a certain breed, but I guess I dont care about criminal rights -- if the state says they cant have pitballs, alcohol, and drugs, its fine with me.

Yes, but I don't think a cocker spaniel is going to kill anyone or try to literally eat them.

the dogs are bred to kill............

as long as you know that going in there really is no debate, this is what nature wanted to happen.

now its up to government to ban these things, another reason to carry a gun.

innocent people like this guy and your grandma are just collateral damage in the debate..............

rot owners will say sorry, they are great dogs, and people like me want them shot and the breed to be extinct

I own 3 dogs and one is a pit bull(60lbs) and Lady is the most docile of the 3......(they all are SPCA mixes) So obviously I am against any law that would forbid the ownership of certain breeds of dog.

As a side note--I an a fairly avid runner (around 15 miles/week) and the only time I have been chased by a dog was when a rottweiler was running lose in my neighborhood--safe to say, I probably could have made the olympic team with the pace I maintained to get to my back yard.......

There are no breeds that even come close to inflicting as many human deaths or vicious attacks as Pit Bulls.

this is all true but only to a point . I knew of a horse that was a great horse never hurt a thing one day he went nuts darn near killed the kid that was on him ...I know you say well that is a horse yes you would be right point is animals are strange one thing sets them off blood and you never know when that might happen ... I guess if you want a animal around that could kill one of you kids that is your right but I would never keep a breed that snaps around my family .
