Default Fans asked to treat Chief games like Bowling Matches

Fans are asked to treat Chiefs games like bowling matches
By MJD
See all those fans in that picture? They are dirty, filthy people who are running afoul of Arrowhead Stadium law and should be ejected and beaten with a railroad spike.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a "Fan Code of Conduct," which is essentially a list of rules that fans have to follow when they're attending a game at Arrowhead. In theory, it's not a bad idea, as you'd like your stadium to provide a friendly atmosphere for families and people who aren't drunken hooligans.

In practice, though, it might not be such a great idea, especially if the person responsible for coming up with the rules is an 85-year-old woman who teaches the 2nd grade and regards standing up as one of the evil things that young whippersnappers often do. Seriously, standing erect is the No. 2 item on the list of things that are prohibited:

• Standing and/or obstructing the view of other fans

Not only that, Pro Football Talk points out how seated fans can anonymously tattle on their upright counterparts:

The Chiefs also have set up a text-messaging system that allows fans who might be offended by behaviors like standing to report the situation to the powers-that-be.

Awesome. I hear they're even taking the extra step and including bed pans with every seat, so no one has to get up to use the bathroom. They're going to make the beer and peanut vendors crawl through the stadium on all fours. Also, as soon as you get to your seat and sit down, an usher's going to come by and inject you with a temporary paralytic.

Maybe I'm overreacting. The anti-standing policy might only be temporary. Maybe they'll lift the ban when the Chiefs can field an offense that might actually score a touchdown every now and then and might give fans a reason to stand. Maybe this is only the policy until Brodie Croyle improved or is replaced.

Still, it seems like an asinine, joyless, and dangerous policy. If standing is banned, we can't be far away from banning yelling, too, can we? I'm all for a friendly fan experience, but I'd also rather not turn Arrowhead into the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

I don't know, I'm kinda a fan of it. If a person can't be standing up all the time or is slow to do so, they end up missing everytime anything exciting happens. Sure, there's going to be cheering when a big play or event happens but you literally spend 75% of the time watching the monitor if you aren't one of the standing fans. I, however, wasn't a big fan of the NFL atmosphere at all though when I finally went to a game. People going back and forth for drinks the whole time making everyone stand up to let them squeeze through, always standing to watch the game, etc. I much more enjoyed the college atmosphere it seemed.

It doesn't matter, I bet by next year Anal-Head will be a ghost town after the Brodie Train derails.

New to the Mane, but this article has me laughing.

Anyone who complains about people standing at a football game should have to forefeit their tickets and move to china. but since its arrowhead.....

I saw a game at arrowhead once. Scary freakin place to play, anything that makes it more hospitable for the visitors would be OK by me.

I wonder if they will be regulating the height and length of their Mullets.

Nothing like being stuck behing 30,000 mullet heads and trying to watch a football game.

Do not laught too much Bronco fan... I can see this happening to us at mile high in the very near future. Every stadium now caters to the wine and cheese crowd and they have very little tolerance for loud, cheering fans... It does after all get in the way of their cell phone use with all that noise.

I think I saw a "tattle-text" thing on the scoreboard at Invesco last year. I should've paid more attention, but I think we've already got something like it.

I can see why some Chief fans find this easy to handle, there hasn't been much to stand up for anyway.

You're correct. They already have the "tattle tale" system in place.
It's almost time to tell them to go **** themselves. See how they do with a tennis match mentality.

I can tell you this much, where my tickets are in Mile High, no one is ever going to tell me to sit down because they can't see.

I had the worst gas the last time I was at Arrowhead... and it was the silent type. My god that was hysterical. And thus, the saga of the whofarted jersey began. Go me. That would have been a fun tattle text situation.

OMG sum1 srsly Sht indair pnts sos plz

I hope it takes off to other places....There is a huge difference between getting up and cheering in key crucial moments and exploding to your feet during a big play versus forcing everyone behind you to stand up the entire game because you can't find it within yourself to ever sit down.

This is absurd. If you want to sit down to watch the game stay home or go to Coors. It's football the overwhelming, jaw dropping raucous nature of Mile High is what set Denver apart from other football towns...until Elway showed up and then it went from loud stadium to Mile High Magic. To steal from my English brethren...jog on you sodding wankers.

They should require that all new football stadiums have lower bowl "standing room only" sections that don't have any seats like some soccer stadiums. Let the wine and cheese crowd sit in their nice, comfy seats in the club level. Then you wouldn't need the "tattle tale text" system.
