Same here. Metal/rock keeps the blood flowing and keeping me youthful.

Fair enough, I respect that ... you have your own criteria. That's more than the author of that story can say.

It's hard to keep from quoting Dead Milkmen lyrics after this post

It's hard to keep Metallica out of the Top 5 ... in the musical purgatory of the 1980s, they brought metal back to mega-album-sale levels.

Only if your definition of "metal" is purely subjective and ignores commonly accepted classifications of musical genres.

It would be difficult to find one critic, reviewer, musicologist, historian, programmer, or retailer who has ever categorized anything Robin Trower has ever recorded as "metal."

Robin Trower's music would be most accurately described as "rock," "blues rock," or, in some instances "hard rock."

I would have to agree with you on that account.

If I had to point to just one band as the prototypical metal band, it would probably be Black Sabbath. Definitely one of the more prominent roots of the family tree.

As for the term "heavy metal," it was first coined by rock critic Lester Bangs who encountered it in the novel "Naked Lunch" by William S. Burroughs and applied it to music.

If you were a music critic, a retailer, or a radio programmer, would you classify Procol Harum as "heavy metal?"

That's true....most people think it originates from the Steppenwolf song, Bangs predates that.

Speaking of Bangs, I remember reading one of his pieces where he said Black Sabbath was the first Catholic rock band.....the mind boggles.

Was he referring to Ozzy's penchant for sporting crucifixes?

!

Look man, i dig the first few metallica albums - you know that. But man, they just starting sucking IMO, and that is my opinion. Just so happens after they ran out of Dave's material (and of course more to the truth - after Cliff) - although - i really liked newstead.

I just like Mega-Dave's work.

Nah, that's you man!

I'd rather listen to pantera than anything after the 3rd metallica album.

Store Clerk: Yes, sir.
