Default Is the future of oil bug turds?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle4133668.ece

Quote:

He means bugs. To be more precise: the genetic alteration of bugs – very, very small ones – so that when they feed on agricultural waste such as woodchips or wheat straw, they do something extraordinary. They excrete crude oil.

Unbelievably, this is not science fiction. Mr Pal holds up a small beaker of bug excretion that could, theoretically, be poured into the tank of the giant Lexus SUV next to us. Not that Mr Pal is willing to risk it just yet. He gives it a month before the first vehicle is filled up on what he calls “renewable petroleum”. After that, he grins, “it’s a brave new world”.
Well aint that the damnedest thing? It may just be getting our hopes up and all but but they hope to have a full plant online by 2011 so it's not too far off. Maybe they'll be able to cover a good chunk of our consumption on wood chips and grass clippings.

Could even start excavating our dumps for more stuff to feed the little buggers.

But why not? What an amazing new industry - the mass raising of tiny insects that eat our trash and crap oil. I'm getting in on the ground floor of this one!

What would be cool is if we just pumped all the oil that is left first while we look for new sources.

Hey, this liberal here has been crying to drill in ANWaR for 25 years. The oilfield there is in a VERY small part of the Refuge called the "Coastal Plain," less than 20 miles long. And if the way caribou polpulation exploded 200 miles north when they started drilling in Prudhoe Bay is any indication of what will happen in ANWaR, then the problem will be reindeer OVER-population.

(Plus I think Obama's capital gains tax increase is wrong, and the Walter Reed "scandal" not only wasn't a scandal, it was barely newsworthy.)

That's it! That's ALL you're getting from me!

Yeah, I know .... I wanted to give you the quick and easy reply: LOOK AT THE ALTERNATIVE!

But that's too easy ... so I'm coming up with something a little deeper.

(Is that cryptic enough to make people wonder wtf it's all about? )

If we could make more liberals less tree huggerish and conservatives less religious we would be better off.

ANWAR is nothing but a political football and a means to divide and conquer the sheeple.

When you do the cost/benefit analysis, there isn't enough oil there to make drilling worthwhile for the oil companies.

Study: ANWR oil would have little impact

Heavy reliance on foreign imports would continue, agency finds

Why, what's the point? The U.S. consumes about 20-25 million barrels daily.

Quote:
In total, the oil deposits in ANWR contain enough oil to solely support U.S. consumption for 7 months
