Go there, see what he has to say. Unlike Obama, he has a long history of service. |

MCCAIN ON WOMAN ISSUES
McCain has voted consistently against women's health, and he supports overturning the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling, Roe v. Wade. Following is a summary of his positions on women's issues. McCain Opposed Equal Pay Bill for Women, Said They 'Need Education and Training' Instead. McCain skipped a vote on the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act that would ensure women have the opportunity to recover back pay for discrimination once they discover it. If he had been there to vote, he said he would have voted against it and that women "need education and training" rather than an equal pay bill. The bill addressed a recent Supreme Court decision that said Steelworker Lilly Ledbetter could not recover back pay for 19 years of discrimination at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. because she had not discovered the unequal pay until she retired. The bill would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to allow employees to file charges of pay discrimination within 180 days of the last received paycheck affected by the discrimination. [Source: aflcio.org; H.R. 2831, Vote 110, 4/23/08; Associated Press, 4/28/08] McCain Voted to Gut the Family and Medical Leave Act. In 1993, before finally voting for the Family and Medical Leave Act, McCain voted to jeopardize leave for millions of workers by gutting the bill. He voted to suspend the Family and Medical Leave Act unless the federal government certified that compliance would not increase business expenses or provide financial assistance to businesses to cover any related costs. [Source: aflcio.org S.Amdt. 16, S. 5, Vote 7, 2/4/93; H.R. 1, Vote 11, 2/4/93] Source for the following information: Planned Parenthood McCain opposed spending $100 million to prevent unintended and teen pregnancies. In 2005, McCain voted NO to allocate $100 million to expand access to preventive health care services that reduce the numbers of unintended and teen pregnancies and reduce the number of abortions. McCain opposed legislation requiring that abstinence-only programs be medically accurate and scientifically based. McCain voted NO on legislation that would help reduce the number of teen pregnancies by providing funding for programs to teach comprehensive, medically accurate sexuality education and other programs to prevent unintended teen pregnancies. McCain opposed Title X, the nation's family planning program. In 1990, McCain voted NO on legislation to extend the Title X federal family planning program, which provides low-income and uninsured women and families with health care services ranging from breast and cervical cancer screening to birth control. McCain opposed requiring insurance coverage of prescription birth control. In 2003, McCain voted NO on legislation to improve the availability of contraceptives for women and to require insurance coverage of prescription birth control. McCain opposes comprehensive sex education. In an interview aboard the "Straight Talk Express," McCain struggled to answer questions about comprehensive sex education and HIV prevention. He also stated that he supported "the president's policy" on sex education. McCain unsure where he stands on government funding for contraception. "Whether I support government funding for them or not, I don't know," McCain said about contraceptives. McCain opposed repealing the "global gag rule." In 2005, McCain voted NO on legislation to overturn the "global gag rule," which bars foreign nongovernmental organizations from receiving U.S. family planning assistance if the organization (using its own, non-U.S. funds) provides abortion services or information or advocates for pro-choice laws and policies in its own country. McCain supports overturning Roe v. Wade. In February 2007, the AP quoted McCain stating, "I do not support Roe v. Wade. It should be overturned." In May 2007, he reiterated his desire to overturn Roe v. Wade during an appearance on Meet the Press stating, "My position has been consistently in my voting record, pro-life, and I continue to maintain that position and voting record." |

didnt want americans to find out what he really did in vietnam? the goal was to find records of americans who were POWs, and find any POWs that may still be alive. he killed the bill after it passed 401-0 in the house. now tell me, why would he do that? funny how the man with a long "history of service" has a whole organization of vietnam vets against him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFM1xqqTX_g |

McCain is carbon copy of Bush. He listens only to his inner circle.

Thanks for posting that, RJ. Based on some of McCain's earlier actions and words I knew he was a despicable individual, but now I see that he is even more closely aligned to the dismally failed, anti-Constitutional policies of the neocons than I even imagined. It's true what they say; McCain is just more Bush.

Tombstone sounds like one of those people who would vote for the Republican candidate no matter what - even if the GOP decided to nominate Mark Foley or Duke Cunningham. It's all about brand loyalty. |

My disdain for the GOP is only matched by my utter contemp for the Democratic party. Both suck azz royally, and I wouldn't join either party because each cater to extremists on both sides. Hence, both parties are flawed. With all that said, I'm so very glad the LA Fakers got their azzes handed to them. Talk about a blowout.... ![]() |

I think McCain is going senile personally (he doesn't seem able to remember from year to year what he has said or done concerning the issues).

Bush rallies behind McCain at fundraising dinner By BEN FELLER, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 15 minutes ago WASHINGTON - Seeking to energize party loyalists, President Bush on Wednesday gave his most extended public support to Sen. John McCain, his former foe for the White House. The president said McCain is the only candidate in the race who can face tough decisions and "will not flinch." In a full-throated fundraising appearance for Republicans, Bush never mentioned the name of McCain's opponent in the presidential race, Democratic Sen. Barack Obama. But his critiques of Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress were clear as he turned their themes of "change" and "hope" against them. Bush presided over an annual dinner at the cavernous Washington Convention Center, the last such fundraiser of his presidency. This one raised $21.5 million for Republican House and Senate candidates, an amount that easily topped last year's total but fell short of figures raised in earlier years. The ostensible goal was to help the Republican Party win back Congress. In the House, where every seat is up for election this year, the Democrats hold an edge of 37 seats. In the Senate, where one-third of seats are on the ballot, the split is 49-49, with two independents who caucus with the Democrats. Yet Bush put much of his energy in rallying support for McCain, mentioning his name time and again. McCain, the longtime Arizona senator, ran against Bush in 2000 but lost in the Republican primary. He eventually backed both of Bush's presidential bids and is getting the president's support in return. "In trying times, America needs a president who has been tested and will not flinch," Bush told an audience of roughly 3,400 people. "We need a president who has the experience and judgment to do what is right, even when it is not easy," Bush said. "We need a president who knows what it takes to defeat our enemies. And this year, there is only one man who has shown those qualities of leadership, and that man is John McCain." Bush and McCain rarely appear in public together — the senator was campaigning in Missouri and Illinois on Wednesday — and Bush's speeches on his behalf tend to come at GOP fundraisers that are closed to the media. Bush took the chance to sharply criticize a Supreme Court ruling that allows detainees in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to challenge their indefinite imprisonment in U.S. civilian courts. Obama applauded the decision, while McCain derided it as one of the worst decisions in the country's history. "With this decision, hardened terrorists — hardened foreign terrorists — now enjoy certain legal rights previously reserved for American citizens," Bush said. "This is precisely the kind of judicial activism that frustrates the American people." He said the best way to change that practice is to put Republicans in charge of the Senate and McCain at the helm of the White House. Matthew Miller, a spokesman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said "all the campaign cash in the world won't fool voters into re-electing Republican senators who have overwhelmingly backed George Bush's failed agenda."
