Interception shows Bly is feeling fine

Broncos cornerback Dre Bly wanted to test his sore right hamstring this week, so he needled quarterback Jay Cutler to try throwing his way during 11-on-11 drills.

Cutler gave Bly what he asked for, and Wednesday, Bly made Cutler pay by intercepting a short pass over the middle.

"That's the only way he's going to know what he can and can't do, is if he tries it in practice," Bly said. "I was in the nickel spot and I was able to get a good read off him."

Bly said he "tweaked" his right hamstring a couple of weeks ago, and only this week has been feeling good enough to go full speed, which he also proved by tackling running back Andre Hall in the backfield.

"It's still not 100 percent, but still, it is good enough for me to break and react without having any pain," Bly said. "I can open up and run, and I don't think I'm endangering myself at all right now by practicing. Actually, I think I'm strengthening it and helping it."

Robertson sidelined again.

Defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson sat out practice Wednesday with a sore left knee. He said he will not practice again until training camp opens July 25. He also sat out part of the team's passing camp in May.

"I'm just trying to take it easy the rest of camp," Robertson said
.

He has suffered through knee injuries his first five years in the NFL with the New York Jets and had surgery on his wrist this year.

Trying out.

Former LSU punter Patrick Fisher, who averaged 56.7 yards with his three punts in the national championship game against Ohio State in January, is getting a two-day tryout with the Broncos.

Fisher was in the Jets' rookie camp a month ago. "It went well, but it just didn't work out because of that 80-man rule," he said. "Hopefully it goes well here."

Denver has three other punters on its 80-man roster: Sam Paulescu, Danny Baugher and Brett Kern.

Footnote.

Today is the final day of the Broncos' offseason camp. Players will have a week off before resuming conditioning June 23. Players report to training camp July 24, with the first practice scheduled for July 25.

I'm starting to think I'll be more surprised if D-Rob even makes it through training camp.

As long as Robertson is not taking it easy through the regular season I will be OK with this...

D-Rob sounds like a wreck. I doubt he does make it out of training camp.

Yeah Shanahan frequently rests the veterans during camps and I think Dwayne is an obvious candidate for this.

All this defense needs is some execution up front, and it will be a tough one to contend with. Bailey and Bly are without a doubt the most talented pair of DB's in the league.

Hopefully something can materialize in the trench. Robertson is a step in the right direction, but we've had so many players come here and fail miserably at that position that its hard to have any hope that it will turn out for the better.

The punter situation is starting to really scare me.

Don't we have an open spot after Henry was released? I never heard us sign anyone. Did we just bring back Underwood or something?

the coaches are not going to risk possibly destroying his knee in June. He will be out there in training camp as one of the players on the 1 practice a day schedule and he will be fine by the season.
add in the fact that he will be splitting time at DT and he should be fine the whole year

I'm unable to give my opinion without a picture.

Same goes for Bly's hamstring.

Fact is the less mileage on D. Robs knee, the better. He just needs to maintain his health in the offseason, get through training camp knowing the system (and healthy) and then be ready to play on Sundays. He's gonna get rotated in and out alot, and if he doesn't mess up his knee, if the Broncos make the post season, he should be healthy.

He want's to play, he wants to prove something to the fans and the NFL. He can only do that if he stays healthy and the knee doesn't go south on him. He's motivated and experienced, I think he'll be a great asset to the defense, and to the younger players like Marcus Thomas.

Not a 10+ year vet like Strahan. We should offer Lynch the same deal so he can save some neck juice for the season when he's needed.

just a gut feeling. It's no different then someone else saying I doubt this is a big deal. But hearing that he failed a physical and is now having knee pain and isn't practicing make me feel he won't be on the team. Broncos have too many young Dlineman to waste time on injured players who don't practice.

If by training camp he is practicing hard I will probably change my mind.

Sorry I just can't see the team through rose colored glasses like many of you.

This isn't a playoff team IMO.

If he doesn't make the team so what. He costs us nothing unless he plays the majority of the games next season.

Sigh. He's not hurt. He's not hurting. He is resting his knee so that he does not chance getting hurt or hurting. He has played something like 90% of the games he could have since entering the league, and had his best collegiate season after injuring his knee his sophomore year.

Robertson is fine.
