Default Thanks To Reduced Solar Activity, We Could Be Heading For A Mini Ice Age In 2030

http://www.iflscience.com/environmen...i-ice-age-2030

Life on Earth has always been dependent on the conditions of the Sun, so scientists spend a lot of time studying its activity. A recent announcement from solar scientists suggests that the Sun may soon enter a period of significant reduced activity, possibly causing a mini ice age by 2030 just 15 years from now.

These predictions were announced at the National Astronomy Meeting in Llandudno, Wales, so it hasn't been possible to evaluate the research yet. However, Professor Valentina Zharkova from the University of Northumbria who made this announcement claims that the findings come from a computer model of sunspots that has made "unprecedentedly accurate predictions," as reported in The Guardian.

The model has shown to have a 97% accuracy when mapping the past movements of sunspots, using data of solar cycles from 1976 to 2008. And if this reliability continues, then the model also has some alarming predictions for the future: a mini ice age sometime around the 2030s.

To achieve these findings, the scientists mapped the movement of solar fluid that moves in roughly 11-year cycles, which correspond to weather cycles on Earth. Around the year 2022 (labeled cycle 25), a pair of waves will be moving to the Northern and Southern Hemispheres of the Sun, getting slowly out of synch and reducing solar activity and thus our warm weather.

"In cycle 26, the two waves exactly mirror each other peaking at the same time but in opposite hemispheres of the Sun. Their interaction will be disruptive, or they will nearly cancel each other. We predict that this will lead to the properties of a 'Maunder minimum'," said Zharkova.

The Maunder minimum was a 70-year period between 1645 and 1715. The Sun produced barely any sunspots and the Earth experienced a mini ice age. Parts of northern Europe and the United States experienced uncharacteristically cold winters. The river Thames, flowing through London, even froze over for seven weeks and was passable by foot. The surface was so stable that residents could even hold 'frost fairs' on the ice.

oh my is science contradicting itself here.
all the scientist said the world is gonna heat up.
so now its a global ice age in 15 years

its not global warming anymore, it's called "climate change".. For the people with a brain able to function without government direction it's still just called weather.

Incorrect.

Even a new Maunder minimum will not end manmade climate change.

in other 'science' news, volcanoes caused the pause that didn't happen 2 weeks ago & was caused by heat hiding in oceans last week.

Quote:
Volcanic aerosols have acted during the last 10 years as a natural umbrella to slow down global temperature increase from greenhouse gases, researchers said.

Although global concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has continuously increased over the past decade, the mean global surface temperature has not followed the same path.
Volcanic eruptions may have slowed down global warming by injecting particulates into the atmosphere, according to a study.

We will see all sorts of explanations why the Earth predicted dire consequences don't take shape. In the meantime we have to listen to science try and tell us we are all idiots for not making climate change the most important issue we can think of. We are all supposed to be afraid of it ya know?

Obviously right now they say well volcanoes are saving us. Then it will be Maunder minimum that saves us for a decade or so, then at some point we all die without ever seeing Florida underwater.

This is only one data point -- but we are having a very strange summer here in eastern Oregon. Usually its bone dry here this time of year - but we have been getting lots of heavy rain. Too weird.

Science isn't contradicting itself. It's amusing that that is what you took from that. Global warming as an issue revolves around greenhouse gases and how they will heat up the Earth's atmosphere if they continue to increase. But that assumes normalized solar energy. If this prediction is correct it doesn't negate that the Earth is currently warming and will continue to warm in the immediate future. It just means that that warming will then stop for a time, and possibly even reverse. But when this mini ice age ends the global warming effects will still be at play, and the planet will continue to warm once again. Hate to break it to you but this does not mean we should simply not worry about greenhouse gases.

now what town, city dont matter where in the world, or date.
as long as they got a weather station thats accessible by the net and has records for past several years at least 20 years should i do next?
name some so i can prove disprove this global warming i mean climate change . fyi the CLIMATE IS ALWAYS CHANGING warm, hot ,cold, rain ,dry, sunny ,cloudy, it always changing back n forth

They will at the very least need to keep working on the models. A mini ice age would change the game.

It's not that we think we understand the science of climatology, it's that the so called experts predictions never come true. Turns out a lot of that ice melting was already sitting in water so it doesn't raise the sea level as much as the thought it would.

turns out volcanic activity was more then thought.

Oh and in 15 yrs we know what it will be. THE MAUNDER MINIMUM IS ONLY DELAYING THE WARMING!

Oh and then we will all be old and laughing about how much money we spent on taxes and subsidies to cool the earth.

What will a Maunder Minimum mean for solar plant production? do they even know.

The drop in winter temperatures in Europe was delayed by 50 years from the Maunder minimum so I doubt we will see a drop in global temperatures.
