Sorry for the off topic, I have a serious Issue with droping a course any recomendations would be greatly apprecited.
I enrolled in 3, 6 week summer school classes at the same time. We are now 3 weeks into the classes and past the drop date. I now realise this is to much for me to much to keep up with, and I have fallen behind in 1 of the classes. My teacher emailed me today, and recomended that I drop the class. After I recieved the e mail I went to the registrars office, only to be told it was to late to drop a class, but i could withdraw. Is there anything I can do to get out of 1 of the clasess and get a full, or any refund without having to withdraw? The one i want to get out of is a online course, if that makes any differance, so there was no actual in class time. By the way the only reason I have resorted to posting this on a message board, is because the teacher will not respond to my e mail. |

I don't know if you can audit an online course. Usually the date to change your status to audit is close to the drop date. There's nothing wrong with having a WD on your transcript, especially if you complete the class at a later date. You're screwed on getting a refund, no way around that. That's my experience anyway. The details are different from school to school, but overall they work pretty much the same. Good luck!

Drop this course and pick up a spelling course... ;-)
J/K, the question you are asking is more so a question for an advisor or the business office at your school. They may ask for approval from your instructor but I think you need to start with the business office if you are trying to get a refund. I've had a similar situation in the past and I basically took an Incomplete and talked them into letting me take the class again with no charge. I hope this helps! |

With my experiences, I highly doubt they will refund your money on the course since I believe, from what I have been told, it is not up to the school to determine dates for withdrawal with refunds (may be different depending on the state). However, I have been able to drop courses after the deadline with permission from my instructor's. Either get them to talk to the admission office people for you, or have them give you something in writing allowing you to drop the course. Good luck.

Chances of that are probably pretty slim though, incompletes are typically reserved for someone who actually has some kind of medical ailment or something that is completing them form finishing, not just biting off more than they can chew. Find the date for withdrawal and then go about trying to get an incomplete extension of some kind, but as soon as it gets near the withdrawal date just take the WD, its a whole lot better on your transcript than an F. |

I wrote the book on dropping courses and squeaking by in school. Always put partying and banging skanks first. I wish I could go back in time and beat my own ass. Take it from me, treat your schoolwork like a job and don't fock around. It will save you a lot of stress and valuable time and money. I wish you the best and hope you can get back your scratch.

Well it depends on whether or not your school allows you to do a repeat/delete where you can replace a grade in a class by taking the same class later. Some schools let you, if thats the case then I would finish out the class, take the grade, and then re-do it later. That way you get all the study materials, tests and info that you can keep. Then next time you take it, its an easy A.

Incomplete is an option. It's only a six week course, right? Talk to your prof. Tell him you're struggling to keep up with your schedule and can't afford it any other way. Be straight and up front, and ask for an Incomplete.
Some are cool that way. It's a last ditch effort before you Withdraw and take the W. The money stays with the school, you just have an extended deadline to finish the coursework, if that's an option. |

i'd be surprised if you couldn't convince the brass to allow you to drop the course...make up some kind of a story if need be...
but there is no way you'll get your money back... that ain't happening... |

there are other options.........although your ethics could be called into question lol
I work at a college, so trust me on this one. 1. Medical leave......if you tell them (and document *cough cough*) that there was a medical reason that you cannot attend that class anymore then by law they must refund your money. 2. A sick family member. Again they have the right to ask for documentation. 3. You can tell them a little white lie.......Your computer blew up, you no longer have internet access, etc..... and ask them for an imcomplete......... they will assign you a grade of imcomplete now, but you will have 6 months to make up the work (IE fall semester) and then this imcomplete grade changes to whatever you earned. |
