I always thought the swapping of 6th rounders by the Chiefs and Vikings for the Allen trade was odd. Peter King explains in latest MMQB:
Factoid of the Week That May Interest Only Me If you're a nerdy/curious guy like me, and you saw the terms of the Kansas City-Minnesota trade for Allen last week, one weird thing stuck out. The trade: The Chiefs sent Allen and a sixth-round pick (187th overall), to Minnesota for a first-round pick (17th), two third-rounders (73rd and 82nd) and a sixth (182nd). The weirdness: Why the totally insignificant swap of sixth-rounders? "Because I wanted to get the real value according to our trade chart,'' said Peterson, "and with only the one and two threes, we were a few points short.'' The draft trade chart -- some teams use it, some think it's outdated -- provides a point value for each of the 252 picks in the draft. When Team A is trading with Team B, often Team A's general manager will consult the chart to see if he's getting the correct value in the deal. In this trade, Peterson wanted Minnesota's first- and second-round picks. Minnesota's first, the 17th overall, is worth 950 points on the chart; the second rounder, 47th overall, is worth 430. That is 1,380 points of value on the chart. Minnesota offered instead to trade the 17th (950 points), 73rd (225) and 82nd (180). That's 1,355 points of value on the chart. The two teams were 25 points apart. So Peterson, just wanting anything to narrow the gap in his mind, settled for a swap of sixth-rounders. The 182nd pick is worth 19.6 points, the 187th pick valued at 17.6. So Peterson, a nut for the trade chart, got two points closer to his goal of an even trade. |

2 reasons
1) 13 picks -- you can't get them all wrong 2) Herm and Bill Kukarich (sp) did more scouting and for some reason has been able to trump Peterson 18 years of a 5 year plan and a most recent 4-12 season set this up. I don't wish that on anyone. |

I have no idea about the later round of the Chef draft....really don't care, but how hard was it for the Chefs to Draft Dorsey and Albert. They just fell into their laps. No real brain power there. Just blind luck.

It real easy to look like you had a good draft when your in the top 5. 2 picks in the top 20 doesnt hurt either. We'll just wait and see, just like all those Raider drafts. Michael Huff anyone? |

Everyone also has just assumed that Albert is going to play tackle; I think if he's left at guard he will dominate, but it's almost guaranteed they're going to force him into tackle, right? I can see him flopping around out of position for a while...I don't wish it on him or his career, but that's what happens when you're on a team desperate for answers.

I heard an interview on the radio with some VP of the chefs, don't recall his name, said Albert is going to play the tackle position.
I think KC did well in their draft, but I agree that those high players just fell into their laps. Good for them for actuall pulling the trigger, but meh. Anyone one of those players (or any players) could bust, so we'll see how it all pans out over the next couple seasons. |

hard to say.............they cleaned the place out and are about 20 players short. I am thinking some of the crud stays until this draft class gets to where they can contribute (if they can). There isn't much depth on the team.

It would have been hard for the Chiefs to not have a good draft. I personally don't like the Albert pick, but I am in the minority on that one.

I agree. It kind of reminds me of the San Diego trade with New York for Eli Manning. The Giants want to give away the farm... who would turn that down?
