Not a bad lot and both the kicker and punter may work as well.
The Broncos added a few undrafted rookie free agents Sunday night, receiving commitments from: Cherry Creek High School grad Tyler Polumbus, who started 26 games at tackle in his career at CU; Oklahoma kicker Garrett Hartley; Toledo punter Brett Kern; Houston running back Anthony Alridge, a 170-pounder who was one of the fastest players at the scouting combine with a 4.36 40-yard dash - he ran for 1,597 yards last season and caught 42 passes; Texas-El Paso wide receiver Lorne Sam; and South Dakota State guard Mitch Erickson. The Broncos were hoping, as of Sunday night, to reach an agreement with Kentucky linebacker Wesley Woodyard. Last edited by Hulamau; 04-28-2008 at 05:22 AM.. |

Height: 5'9" Weight: 199 College: Oklahoma Conference: Big 12 Hometown: Southlake, TX High School: Southlake Carroll Featured Prospects The 2006 Lou Groza finalist struggled with his placements as a senior, but continued to show great accuracy on his field-goal attempts. His explosive leg also put 60 of 182 kickoffs into the end zone during that period, as he led the team in scoring as a junior and senior. Hartley would conclude his Oklahoma career as the school's third-leading kick scorer with 317 points. His 47 field goals made also rank third in Sooner annals, as he set a school all-time record by making 81.03 percent of his field-goal attempts during his career. At Carroll High School, Hartley was rated the second-best kicker in the nation by Rivals.com and the 71st-best overall player in Texas by Super Prep. He was named All-State by the Dallas Morning News, adding All-Conference and All-Region honors. Hartley was expecting to red-shirt in 2004 at Oklahoma, but he was pressed into duty for the final three games. He made his only field-goal attempt, a 29-yarder vs. Southern California in the Orange Bowl, adding 12 PATs. He also averaged 60.8 yards on 11 kickoffs with a pair of touchbacks. As a sophomore, Hartley earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors vs. Baylor. He ranked second on the squad in scoring with 79 points. I think he switched to the / after trying out as a QB at FSU. He has rushing stats, passing and recieving. He can run and jump, he's smart, good for camp and taxi squad.

Kern may be the best punter we could have picked up. Now I need to be reassured about this PK situation. Someone come in and calm me down, like you did with Powell, and tell me everything is going to be alright.

I wondered if Sam was PK Sam's brother.
According to an article in today's Denver Post, Prater is the favorite to be the Broncos PK. |

very excited about aldridge. will he give royal some competition for return duties??! I could see it, both are quick little ****s...I love it!
I like the two kickers...especially Kern. OU kid has some work ethic issues, or so I've read...not really what I want to hear from someone who wasn't put all the pieces of the puzzle together yet, but I'll give him a shot...prove me wrong! this entire draft is gonna fly under the radar but I'm gonna go ahead and say that 5-7 years down the road we may only have one pro-bowler out of the bunch (clady) but I think we got at least 5 solid contributors for years down the road...solid contributors are great, this team has impact guys, that are missing the supporting role guys. Champ, DJ, Elvis on D...Jay, Brandon, Scheff, whoever is at RB of offense bring in woodyard!!!! he can be a special teams demon! I think he has a better shot dropping 5-10 lbs and moving back to safety, he's smooth in coverage and can lay the lumber. |

Wesley Wooodyard went undrafted?
Hard to believe that the leading tackler in the SEC went undrafted. I know he is right around 218-220, but undrafted? I see this guy's future as a Safety (which he played when he first went to Kentucky), or I guess they could put another 10-15 lb's on him at LB. This kid is fast, hits hard, and could be an immediate improvement on ST. I really like this signing, I hope he does well. |

Woodyard is a heck of an athlete...Can't believe nobody took a chance on him. A little small for the OLB but would make a nice big safety and has experience playing safety...He would have been a heck of a lot better gamble than many of the guys drafted in the 5th through 7th round.

Hartley was a pretty solid kicker at OU, and was highly recruited out of Carroll. I always thought that he looked like he had NFL talent.

Looks like we'll have a good kicking competition in camp. I read that Hartley regularly boots it through the EZ. My Buff bias likes Polumbus. Hope he can hang in there. Aldridge is a very interesting signing. I watched a couple of film clips of him. Definitely got some speed. The competition for kick returns should be pretty hot, given that Torain has done some kick returning too. Looks like Hester lit a fire under Shanahan.
My favorite of the UDFA signings is Woodyard. He loves to hit. I'm hoping he's our next SS. |

I AM SOOO STOKED ABOUT THEM SIGNING SAM!!! He was absolutely outstanding for us for the 2 years he was at UTEP. He played QB and had stints at WR (and also returned kicks). He was amazing... he didnt play the last 5 games of the season though because he was injured.
Im buying his gear now, this kid is GREAT I promise!!! WOOOOO!!!!! (btw, he only had his hair like that for a few games... he's since buzzed it. http://nwe.scout.com/2/750282.html?r...40813162&ATT=5 ) Last edited by El Guapo; 04-28-2008 at 11:09 AM.. |
