Not Bronco related, so please move to whereever-I always like McNair and felt he just never lived up to his potential-
OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair is retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons. McNair told teammates of his decision during an emotional meeting Thursday morning before the launch of coach John Harbaugh’s first minicamp. The 35-year-old McNair led the Ravens to a 13-3 record in 2006, his first season in Baltimore after 11 years in Tennessee. But groin, back and shoulder injuries limited him to six games in 2007. He threw just two touchdown passes while losing seven fumbles and throwing four interceptions as the Ravens struggled to a 5-11 record. McNair led Tennessee to the Super Bowl in 1999, where the Titans lost to the St. Louis Rams. He was named co-MVP of the league in 2003, sharing the award with Peyton Manning. |

He has been one of my favorite non-Broncos. Became a fan watching him lead that comeback that just fell short in the Super Bowl. The right call for him, he didn't have much left. Good luck to him.

They guy was a gamer, no doubt. Some of the injuries he had were horrific but he kept coming back for more. Enjoy retirement Steve!

Enjoy retirement.
I never forget that final drive in the Super Bowl where he juked out the entire Rams D, then shoves a Rams d-linemen away with his left hand, and then throws it down field to Dyson. |

That means Baltimore is going to be looking QB in the draft, unless Boller and Tony Smith are suddenly the answer.

McNair stopped playing about 4 or 5 years ago but nobody bothered to tell him.
He is supposed to have a press conference today but rumor is it might get moved back because he got dinged up getting out of bed this morning. |

McNair was one tough SOB... Always seemed to be playing hurt... I hope life after football is good to him.

I'm sure this had alot more to do with the direction the Raven's wanted to go. I think that is a pure sign of who they want to draft...if I were drafting ahead of them I would start mumbling about how I am going to draft him, see if you can get an extra pick outta them by having them trade up.

I always thought he was more hype than substance. He was never an elite QB.

completed 62% of his passes averaged 3,300 passing yards averaged 350 rushing yards averaged 22 passing TDs and 4 rushing TDs averaged only 11 INTs Co-MVP in 2003 McNair's 3,590 career rushing yards and 37 rushing touchdowns rank fifth and third respectively all-time among NFL quarterbacks. Among active quarterbacks, McNair ranks first in both rushing yards and rushing TDs. His 2,387 rushing yards from 1997-2001 also made him one of three quarterbacks in NFL history to rush for more than 2,350 yards in a five-season span. He's certainly had his problems with injuries, but I'd say he had an elite stretch for at least part of his career there. |

He had a solid stretch but I would only consider it solid. 3,000 yards and 20 TD's in today's game is pretty average. The only thing that boosts that a little above average is he kept his INT's down. Those numbers twenty years ago would be excellent but in this pass happy, rules friendly environment makes 3,000 passing yards and 20 TD's just barely above run of the mill. 15 QB's threw for 3,100 yards or more last year and 13 QB's threw for 20 TD's or more. So even in his "Prime" his numbers were pretty mid tier. Throw in the fact he was about as durable as a fifty cent wine glass makes me have to agree with Atlas in him being far more hype than product in terms of being an elite QB. |

You are totally discounting his rushing yards and rushing TDs though. Just because they aren't passing stats doesn't mean they aren't criteria to be used while measuring him against other QBs.
And any time you are a league co-MVP, I would think "elite" would be more accurate than "solid". |

I also discounted his extemely high number of fumbles. But you tell me if he really had a "co-mvp" year in 2003? 3,215 yards passing, 24 TD's 7 INT's, 12 Fumbles and 138 yards rushing vs 4,267 yards, passing, 29 TD's 10 INT's, 6 fumbles and 26 yards rushing And not that it matters at this point but one lady who voted for McNair and caused the tie admitted she made a mistake. |

Given their situation the Browns would probably be willing to reverse their decision on Quinn for a late 1st rounder or a combination of a early 2nd and 4th that the Ravens could give them. |

You forgot the discrepancy in rushing TDs. McNair 4, Manning 0. That makes TDs a wash and turnovers a wash. Manning's only real advantage is yardage. I'm also not viewing those numbers in a vacuum. I don't think anyone would take McNair's supporting cast over Manning's. Or McNair's offensive scheme over Manning's.....at least if you are attempting to put up big numbers. Looking at the overall big picture, I see no reason why a co-MVP award wasn't justified there. |
