There is a big debate going on about what to do with the #12 pick. The overwhelming argument has been between OT vs RB (Mendenhall).
I started a poll some weeks ago similar to this and OT was the overwhelming choice but I get the feeling the opinions have changed a bit. So assuming no DTs fall to us and that the OT of our liking (Albert,Clady,Williams) is available, and Mendenhall is available...what do you want to see us pick? No trade down options on this poll. |

the last couple days has been consumed with the constant debate on it, so I am hoping to see how the Mane will vote on the issue... |

I'd start Otis Armstrong at RB if it meant we could fix the LT spot.

Easy choice. Cutler is our franchise on the O side, got to protect him.

I WANT that OT and voted for it.
BUT, if Mendenhall is there I wouldn't be surprised to see Shanahan take him, even though he hasn't taken a RB in the first YET. My own thought is there are going to be several RBs available in later rounds that would also fill the bill, and won't cost #12 money to sign. |

Jay needs a franchise tackle, more than a running back.

I want Albert or Clady.
Someone else mentioned that they fear Mike will take Harvey. I have a bad feeling about that too. I think he fell in love with him in last years championship game. |

I am waffleing between best DT on board at 12 or moving down.
The best OT may be gone by then, go with a force at DT or move down. Even if it is a couple slots for a 2nd day or future pick. |

I'm pro-Mendenhall. Largely because I think our RB situation sucks (T-Hen is one more ligament tear or one hot piss test away from sitting out the season, Young and Hall as Shanahan put it "are not 20 carry per game backs") and you can't get the same level of RB talent in next year's class. Mendenhall, Stewart, and McFadden are head and shoulders above the rest of this class, and with Stewart's injury and McFadden's combination of hype (pushing him up boards) and comparative lack of size I got to go with Mendenhall. While I agree that this is a great OT class, especially at the top end, I'm also looking forward to '09 where the OT class looks to be just as good at the top end. We need to see what we have in Harris and Kuper as LTs before we start using top picks on the same position. Mendenhall is the best value at #12. At #42 I hope we take the best OT, DT, or LB available, in that order. Cherilous might slide. If not Pat Sims or Trevor Laws should be there. I'd be particularly happy with Laws. The only other 1/2 combination I'd like to see is if we get stupid lucky and have Ellis or Dorsey fall in our laps at #12 and Stewart fall in our laps at #42, but I don't think that'll happen. |

Fine, move down then and grab the DT. Plug the middle of Dline to help 1st time starter at MLB. The fact that we have 2 young LT's lined up for camp already and they signed that old Chef to play Guard makes me think they go D. I hope they take a DT over MLB. or at least address DT early and often. Now if they do the Robertson deal I guess it could be MLB and playmaker on O....just a guess though. |
