Thought it might be kind of fun to have a team by team thread.

Sure, why not -- I suppose we'll just add our subsequent picks in each round by editing....
New Orleans Saints Round 1 - Keith Rivers, LB, USC Round 2 - Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona Round 3 - Frank Okam, DT, Texas Round 4 - Tommy Blake, DE, TCU Round 6 - Corey Lynch, FS, Appalachian State Round 7 - Jermichael Finley, TE, Texas UDFA - Jerome Felton, FB, Furman UDFA - Shawn Murphy, G, Utah State UDFA - Trevor Scott, DE, Buffalo UDFA - Marcus Griffin, FS, Texas Commentary: Keith Rivers -- even though the Saints need cornerbacks more than linebackers, Keith Rivers is the only blue chip defense player available on the board at this point. His pro day performance confirms this -- a 42-inch vertical is absolutely crazy for any player, much less a 240-pound LB. Antoine Cason -- got my cornerback with this pick. Personally, I think Cason's undervalued by draft gurus (Kiper, Mayock, et. al.) because of his lack of 'upside.' My best pick of the draft, as far as I'm concerned, Cason's gonna be a steady vet for at least 10 years. Frank Okam -- possibly the biggest body in the draft, with all the potential in the world. Nobody knows why the light hasn't come on for Okam, but nobody denies that he could be all-world if he wanted to be. It's a moderate risk, high-reward pick. Tommy Blake -- Blake, like Okam, was tabbed as a top-5 pick before the 2007 season began. Granted, the whole quitting-the-team episode was bizarre, and there's a chance he'll be a bust, but for a 4th round pick, I'll take that chance. A major talent with major question marks, I'm buying a lottery ticket here. Corey Lynch -- If Kenny Phillips had played at Appalachian State, what would his stat line look like? Probably not as good as Lynch's. 'Nuff said. Jermichael Finley -- Finley's a sophomore who probably should have stayed in school for at least one more year. He's got 17 career starts already -- had he stayed until his senior year, he would have socked away 40+ career starts at one of the pre-eminent football factories in America. As with a few of my other picks, I'm rolling the dice and gambling on greatness -- Finley will play special teams for two years while he learns his craft, then be ready to contribute in a big way in 2010. Jerome Felton -- Extremely smart player (earned 19 college credits while still in high school) who scored 63 touchdowns in his career at Furman. Has the size and speed to be a good fullback at the pro level. I had him listed as the 4th ranked fullback in the draft. Shawn Murphy -- Murphy is listed as the #2 guard in the draft by Nolan Nawrocki at PFW, and in the top 100 overall. He's a project, but he definitely has the athleticism to make it in the pros as an interior lineman. Trevor Scott -- My super-sleeper pick, and a player that I feel has some real potential as a pro. He started his career as a tight end at Buffalo, and was switched over to DE two years ago. Had 20+ sacks in 2006 and 2007, and tested through the roof at his pro day. Like Murphy, he's got limited experience, but all the tools to be succesful. Marcus Griffin -- His twin brother was a #1 pick last year. Was never a stellar player in college, but did start for a major program for two years, and has some upside. Last edited by BowlenBall; 04-18-2008 at 03:41 AM.. |

1. Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State 2. Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State 4. Kirk Barton, OT, Ohio State 6. Stanford Keglar, LB, Purdue 7. Nick Hayden, DT, Wisconsin With so few picks (and with the trading away their 2nd rounder after the mock started) the Raiders need to sign a number of FA. Here are the 7 that I selected in UFA. Thaddeus Coleman, OT, Mississipi State Adam Krause, OG, Michigan Kolo Kapanu, TE, West Texas A & M Ben Jarvis Green, RB, Ol Miss Steve Octavian, LB, Nebraska Alvin Bowen, LB, Iowa State DJ Parker, S, Va. Tennessee Titans:
2nd Round: Pat Sims - DT - Auburn 2nd Round: Brandon Flowers - CB - VA Tech 3rd Round: Dustin Keller - TE - Purdue 3rd Round: Mike McGlynn - OG - Pittsburgh Okay, people are asking me what's up with some of my selections and why Tennessee is going after this position instead of that one. I'll summarize for you. Pat Sims was a value pick for me. I should have went with my gut who was Red Bryant but I thought Sims has a little more upside. Either way I think he'll be a solid #2 DT in rotation with Albert Haynesworth. Both kinda have the same background. I like having two big body's in the middle of "MY" defense since i'm drafting for Tennessee and with Starks moving on I felt the need for it. I think he'll come in right off the bat and push for playing time. Brandon Flowers to me is a complete CB and somebody I felt like Tennessee couldn't pass up where I was at. He has the ability to be a force in the run game and the pass game despite his size. As I said before, I think he is faster than he timed and if he isn't, well i'll use him as a boundry player. I would pencil him as a starter day 1. The much maligned Dustin Keller pick... people have been commenting, "why after Alge" signed? I feel like this... even with Alge, the TE position was not deep on our roster and I feel that TE is going to be the key position to unlocking whatever passing talent it is that Vince Young has. Tennessee runs a bunch of ACE formation stuff, especially when they bootleg and playaction so you need AT LEAST two players at that position that can run and catch. Purdue used him in the same capacity with bootlegs and playactions and he exploded for over 700yds receiving and 7 TD's. He's a work in progress with blocking but he is a guy that can create mismatches vs. safeties and MLB with his explosive athleticism. Plus, Alge is far from a spring chicken. We need to develope depth at the position if he doesn't full-fill expectations. Mike McGlynn is my kind of guy. He isn't much flash, doesn't look physically imposing but the guy is a fighter and he'll fill multiple roles from the RT position where we could use some help on down to center. He gave up a sack late to Sedric Ellis from USC in the senior bowl but I thought he played a great game against him overall. I'm happy to have him on our roster where we might be losing longtime guard Benji Olson to retirement. Last edited by bpc; 03-16-2008 at 04:09 PM.. |

Pick 115 Chevis Jackson, CB, LSU - Another SEC corner that can start right away and have a solid pro career. 4. Pick 181 Arman Shields, WR, Richmond - Small school prospect with big, big upside. 5. PHI Eagles Update for Dedhed:
#19 (1) Limas Sweed WR-Texas #49 (2) Curtis Lofton LB-Oklahoma #80 (3) Tony Hills OT-Texas #111 (4) Marcellous "Tyrell" Johnson S- Arkansas State #144 (5) Darrell Robertson DE/OLB-GT #147 (5) Darius Reynaud WR/KR/PR- WVU #175 (6) Kenneth Moore WR/KR/PR- Wake Forrest #212 (7) Thomas Brown RB- Georgia PHI addresses all their major needs and gets a few Steals IMHO. The 4th and 5th round picks will likely be 2 rounds higher in the real draft and address needs to boot. Both fit the scheme as well. The PR/KR spots are filled and Thomas Brown is also a decent returner to boot. Brown drops because of injury concerns, but fits Andy Reids offense. Overall, PHI took value at positions of need in this draft. 2008 UDFA for PHI 1. Michael Grant, CB/FS, Arkansas 2. Brandon Keith, OT, Northern Iowa 3. Pierre Garcon, WR, Mount Union 4. Dominique Barber, FS, Minnesota 5. Reggie Corner, CB, Akron 6. Eric Foster, DE/DT, Rutgers 7. Bobbie Williams, FS, Bethune-Cookman Very Happy with the rest of the 2008 rookie class. Keith is a typical Andy Reid Mauler with major upside. Michael Grant is a FS/CB that can press cover in their scheme. Pierre Garcon is one of the best blockers in the draft at WR and is a major playmaker. Barber is Safety depth. Reggie Corner is another overlooked CB in a deep class that can also press cover. Eric Foster is just a football player, love his leadership and tenacity. Bobbie Williams is a small school kid with NFL talent and more safety depth.
