Default Robertson Trade 'Close' - 4/11 - Broncos to Give Two Day 2 Picks

http://nyj.scout.com/2/745433.html

According to several league sources, the NY Jets are close to acquiring two of the five draft choices the Denver Broncos currently possess between the fourth-and-sixth round in what would breakdown to basically a sign-and-trade deal for former first-round defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson.

The Broncos will need to sign Robertson to a new deal prior to the draft in order to allow the trade to be completed. The Broncos have picks #108 and #119 in the fourth, as well as #139 and #148 in the fifth and #183 in the sixth round.

Dealing Robertson would save the Jets about $8 million as he currently is scheduled to count $11 million against the team's cap.

What else is there to talk about? Keary Colbert? At least it's Broncos related.

I hope we trade up for Ellis. If we get Robertson, we can get an OL in the 1st and address two of our biggest problems.

I'm hearing that this deal will be heavily increntive-laden...not that that would be any surprise, but IF Robertson plays well & racks up some nice #'s, he stands to make a salary close to what he was scheduled to make with the Jets this season.

I'm not sure what 'out' clauses the Broncos have, but I also understand there will be some inherent insurance clauses in the event Roberston can't play because of pre-existant injury.

In short, it sounds like the Broncos structured this thing very, very well and benefits/protects both the Broncos and...assuming Robertson plays above expectations...the player as well.

I don't mind giving up two picks, but I'd feel better about it if one was for next year and conditional on Robertson playing a minimum amount of games.

wabbit, have you heard of any possible timeframe/exact date for consummation of this trade? Is it going to be a draft day thing or will this go down sometime in the next two weeks?

God I want something to just freaking happen in regards to this situation. Im tired of hearing the same crap day after day

Woahhhh hold up a minute! Two picks?! F that stuff, He's going to be cut if not traded.

I was for the deal, if it was one pick, but giving two selections for an inconsistent player with a knee issue?

I'd rather see what the draft holds and take the chance to sign the guy after he is cut.

I'm not aware of the time-table, sorry. I 'm tired of it too, but, because the complex money issues, there was a lot to be worked out.

This thing was terribly handled from the start (Sundquist).

It had to be unraveled and almost completely re-worked, but I'm not privy to the exact specifics.

I managed to get some information from a couple fo friends in NY with ties to the team...media ties that is.

I would guess that this trade is no longer tied to draft day...assuming it ever was, so, just a guess here, sometime this next week...and that's if Robertson rolls into town from his home...apparently, he's been dealing with some family issues lately...but, hey, no ten kids by ten different mothers, I promise.

I should add that the NY sports media is reporting this thing is NOT an absolutely done deal quite yet...apparently, while the press release heading this thread would indicate all particulars have been worked out, apparently that's not certain, but I just can't imagine it dragging out much longer.

Hopefully Broncos can move down from the 12th pick in round one and get one of these picks back. If this trade happens at all. If we could get an extra 3rd by dropping to the bottom of round one it would make me like it better.

Yes, he does tend to do well in trades, that is correct and we do have a crisis of blblical proportions at DT. I am just disturbed that we are making excuses for guys who fail physicals. I mean, what's the point of having a physical if we're just going to make an excuse for it after the fact? If he can truly play on those knees and play at a good level for several years, then obviously it would be worth it, but it bothers me that we are rolling the dice again when we've got alot of work to do and actually have 4 picks from the start of Rd. 4 to the end of Rd. 5 and might be able to do some damage there if we don't **** with it too much. I'd feel better about it if we had some more picks to work with so that we could afford to sacrifice a few here and there, but we really are not in a position to be sacrificing anything given that Bowlen is starting to shut off the other avenue of player acquisition.

Ya know I gotta agree with ya on this one. We need to add a couple of good young players to this teem. We need to broaden our nucleus of young talent.

It's stupid. Totally stupid. The Jets HAVE to move him. We hold all the cards. They won't have room to sign their rookies if they don't move him. They should be begging us for a seventh. It's so stupid how in the past we end up getting raped trading for injured players. And yes, two second day picks for someone who the doctors say shouldn't be playing football is a raping. Let's trade TD for some day two picks, while we're moving damaged goods! I hope this report is false and that this thing falls through.

Shanahan: The Jets are desperate. Let them sweeten the deal.

Shows who actually runs the team.

Bowlen said he wanted to build through the draft, Shanahan obviously doesnt.

Opening holes as a lineman, IMO. Undersized and fits Den perfectly, too.

This is part of why it seems(ed) possible that there might be more involved with this and why it might be tied to draft day as has been reported. If it was just undoing Sundquist's handiwerk, how did they come up with draft day? Its still a little hard to reconcile what was reported about it occurring on draft day and the possible reason for it being terms...draft day is just a little too arbitrary...a little too coincidental as an estimated time frame for sorting through what was previously done.

And if Robertson stands to make what he would have (Im assuming his base salary) this year, does anyone think we would be moving up on draft day to take a DT?

Why is draft day arbitrary? I mean they want picks after all right (assuming they don't want Foxworth instead)? If its a week after the draft, it doesn't do them any good to make a trade if they have to wait a full year for the benefit when if they could have wrapped it up earlier they could have had the benefit now. I'm not sure Mangini has the kind of job security to be delaying benefits, anyway.
