Default Need some HELP!

Ok, I've had dogs all my life. Almost all I had since they were puppies. I did take in one dog when she was 1 1/2 but it didn't seem like it took her anytime to assimilate. I adopted a dachshund today that is 5 years old. The people were losing their home and moving to an apt and couldn't take him.

This dog is terrified. We're approaching him slowly and just talking to him and petting him. He has hidden under my desk and right now he's under the table in the living room. My concern is if this continues. He won't drink or eat and that's understandable right now. But what if it continues? Has anyone had experience? And what did you do?

I had this experience as a child, I think we just waited the puppy out and it came around.

Poor thing, hope it works out.

This is somewhat normal for an "adult" dog. Most likely didn't happen with your other dog because it was still just a puppy really. Just be sure to give the dog access to food and water overnight. Most likely, this will be the time it starts to come out of its shell. Gradually, over time, it will become more adventurous during the day when the rest of the house is awake and moving around.

This happened to me years ago when i got my first puppy. She was scared but i just kept it around me petting it and trying to play with it. Sooner or later it will start to loosen up but the key thing is too keep it around you and show it love and affection.

Thanks guys

He slept under my bed last night. Anytime anyone would appear he would dive under the bed. I put a blanket out by my bed and during the night he came out and slept on it but when I looked at him he went right back under the bed. I had to go to work today so my daughter came over and babysat. He is not hiding anymore but still a bit skittish which is understandable. He's eaten a little and is drinking water but I think he really needs to lay down and sleep. He seems to love my grandson and follows him around. The bad part now is I seem to be the one he least wants to be around which breaks my heart but I'll work on it after work and this weekend.

Good news there, he'll come around at some point.
