Very Impressive. I have to admit, I havent heard much about this kid. Had to do a little research. You have to love the depth at the RB position in the draft this year. I would be very dissapointed if we dont come away with a RB from this years draft. Great Find thanks!

I had heard of him previously when he was chasing Barry Sanders' records but figured he was just another speed back but it turns out he's actually a good sized RB. The issue with these guys always comes back to the fact that as a small school prospect, they have to play their butts off to show that they're legit. In this case the guy put up 2400 yds on the ground his senior season and folks now say he's got a lot of mileage. He's not the greatest speaker and his interviews suck but he really seems to have potential for anyone willing to give him a shot.

It would be a great 2nd day if we could get him in the 4th. I think he's moved his way up into the 3rd though and could quite possibly be a late 2nd. His production was great but a lot of people were thinking he'd be in the 4.6 range for speed. Now that he's in the 4.4s with his size and production... IMO he's moved ahead of the Matt Forte's and Ray Rice's of this draft.
I think Shanny is going to draft Devin Thomas in the first and a guy like Johnson or Charles in the 2nd... he wants the speed back at RB! |

Notice his listed/guessed speed.
1. Darren McFadden Arkansas 6-11/4 211 4.33 2. Jonathan Stewart Oregon 5-101/4 235 4.48 3. Rashard Mendenhall Illinois 5-105/8 225 4.45 4. Felix Jones Arkansas 5-101/8 207 4.47 5. Chris Johnson East Carolina 5-11 197 4.24 6. Ray Rice Rutgers 5-8 199 4.44 7. Matt Forté Tulane 6-13/8 217 4.46 8. Kevin Smith Central Florida 6-11/8 217 4.60 9. Jamaal Charles Texas 5-11 200 4.38 10. Tashard Choice Georgia Tech 5-101/2 215 4.52 Kevin Smith Height: 6-11/8 | Weight: 217 | 40-Time: 4.60 Official Bio Strengths: Good size...A very good athlete...Plays faster than he times..A natural runner with excellent vision and instincts..Strong, tough and powerful...Runs hard and doesn't go down easily...Great feet...Terrific balance and agility...Soft hands and can catch the ball out of the backfield...An adequate blocker..Was extraordinarily productive. Weaknesses: Doesn't have great speed and lacks a burst...May have trouble turning the corner in the pros...Isn't a big play threat...Runs too tall...Has a lot of mileage on his tires and durability might be an issue...May have some minor character concerns...Has a thin frame and may need to bulk up..Didn't always play against top competition. Notes: In 2007 he made a serious run at Barry Sanders single-season Division I rushing record (2,628) but fell 61 yards short...Lightly recruited out of high school and his only two Division I scholarship offers came from UCF and Akron..A good all-around player who does everything well but nothing great...Is not quite the prospect that his press clippings would lead you to believe but is the type who could outperform his draft slot...Has starting potential and could end up being a steal for someone. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Career Statistics Year GP Att Yds Avg TD Rec Yds TD 2005 13 249 1,178 4.7 9 8 44 0 2006 9 206 934 4.5 7 23 158 0 2007 14 450 2,567 5.7 29 24 242 1 Totals 36 905 4,679 5.2 45 55 444 1 |

Holy bajeezus! I didn't realize he had 450 attempts last year to get those yds. If 400 attempts is death in an NFL season, 450 in a college season is instant creamation. That's just outrageous and completely changes my opinion on him. No way in hell...

There at least 4 mid round picks that would be amazing for DEN. Ray Rice, Tashard Choice, Kevin Smith, and Thomas Brown would all be outstanding RB's in this system. One cut runners with superior vision and ability to cut back and explode through a hole. |

This will probably come off as "homer-ish", but I gonna say it anyway. I am a UCF alumnus and still live in the Central Florida area. I have seen several games in which Kevin Smith has played. He is very impressive in person. Here is why:
1. He's got excellent vision, which is an un-coachable attribute. 2. He's tough to bring down. Unlike Tatum Bell, he is not going to get tripped up by his shoelaces. 3. He's tough. He would run into/over opponents without hesitation. I would like to see Denver pick up Smith in the 4th round if he's still there. He had a lot of carries last year, but he is very durable and will not see that type of workload in the NFL, uless he plays for the Chiefs..I guess they like to wear down their backs. Smith's vision would make him ideal for the zone blocking scheme's one cut and go style. Just my opinion. |
