attempt to trade up with the Ravens and get either one? If Dorsey fell, I would, not sure about Ellis. But it is intriguing, because I believe the Ravens would still be able to get the corner they are looking for just 4 picks later.

The more I hear about their lack of production, the more I consider whether these guys will really be anything special. 30 total sacks, between them, in their entire college career when they're "disruptive" type DTs? They aren't run stopping beasts or anything, their specialty is getting into the backfield... how does that bode well for them?

I don't think we can afford to trade up. We need a good, deep draft.
I think there will be decent choices in the second through fourth rounds. We need to pick the right guys and develop them, rather than overpaying for potential or past performance. Balmer, Laws, Moore, Pressley, Okam, Sims, Bryant, Rubin, etc.. Pick a couple of them and see who works out. I mean use the first and second round picks you would have given for spot #8 and take two guys. Surely at least one (if not both) would work out. You also save lots of money and have a player you could potentially trade in the future if you get too deep. Neither Dorsey nor Ellis is worth us throwing multiple picks at this year. Stay put or trade down. |

You never quite know how things will pan out, one of these guys (like Ellis) just might fall - then i'm sure we will pass him up and pick Desean Jackson. |

Exactly. We need to "hit" with at least 5 picks this year.
Five starters from this draft could make a big difference. |

No.
If we weren't stupid enough to win some useless games, we would be able to take advantage of a possible drop of one of these studs without having to sacrifice anything. Why should we have to give up value to get something we could have had for free?

No. Both are good talents at a position of need, but neither is worth the amount it would take to move up to #8 - not to mention the huge contract that pick would require.

Shanny addressed this issue SoCal. Thus we are signing Olindo Mare and allowed Jason Elam to escape.

Maybe it's just me personally, but I would have a hard time looking my players in the eye and telling them to "sell out" for the team if I also asked them to intentionally lose. You would honestly throw the Vikings game for a draft pick? |

http://www.daytondailynews.com/blogs...t_round_o.html This talks about the Bengals taking an OT at #9. If that happens, then maybe Ellis could drop to us. |

And even if it were true, you can't assume that the teams that are scheduled to draft from 1-11 today are going to actually be the ones holding those picks come draft day. One single trade up (or one single Minnesota-like performance of not getting a pick in on time) can change everything in a moment. |

Putting the argument of intentially losing games aside, the logic here is terrible. I don't care if we could have had #9 or not, the fact is we're picking #12 and we have to make the most of it. If Jake Long were available at #8 or #9, should we refuse to trade up for him because we could have had him for "free"? That kind of stubborn thinking is just the kind of decision Shanahan would make, though.

Unfortunatley, we need both. I'm against trading up for anyone other than Jake Long at this point, but I wouldn't mind keeping #12 if nothing can be worked out.

Do you honestly believe a penny pinching team wants a top ten money draft pick
![]() ![]() ![]() ??Seems highly unlikely to me. We need help everywhere Denver needs to follow Atlanta and stockpile picks this year next year and so on. |

Better yet, let's pick up some of ATL's picks this year. If they pick Long at #3, there's an outside shot that Ryan could fall to #12 (Baltimore may go OT or CB). In that scenario, ATL may follow the Cleveland model and try to move up for Ryan. With three 2nd's and a high 3rd they could offer up a very nice package.

Just something to think about, Pat Kirwan and the other guy on Sirius were doing their Mock Draft V2.0 today and while I missed the 10 middle picks (had to go fishin'), Clady was gone to the Ravens and Chris Williams proceeded to fall out of the 1st round. They saw him as too much of a finess guy and he eventually fell behind Cherilous (sp?) and Albert both. I'm sure he'd be going very high 2nd round if that were the case but I almost wonder if there's not some logic out there that if you pass on a tackle with the 1st 10 picks, there'll be quality in the 2nd round still. Especially teams like the Broncos who could afford to take either a RT or a LT and be greatly improved.
I know everyone wants to trade down this year and it kills the market but I'm not seeing much at positions of need for the Broncos at 12. It's going to be a reach because it almost has to. That said, I don't think you trade up either. I think anyone will be better than the DTs fielded last year so you can't afford to throw away a Bryant or Moore to put all your eggs in a single basket. |
