Default No on peppers, Broncos gave Robertson a physical last week

Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers may have been at the Pepsi Center watching the Nuggets play Sunday, but it was De- wayne Robertson who was in town taking a physical last week. Unlike Robertson, Peppers isn't available for trade.

Carolina general manager Marty Hurney was adamant while telling The Charlotte Observer that speculation connecting Peppers' appearance in Denver to a Peppers trade to the Broncos is unfounded.

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_8607921

Denver is trying to acquire Robertson, a defensive tackle, from the Jets. His troublesome knee is a hang-up, but he has missed only three games in five seasons, none since 2005.

There was interested press report out of NY that might explain why Denver traded Myers - they need the 6th round draft choice for this deal. See below.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/fo...son_are_j.html
The Jets have been trying to trade Robertson for nearly a month, and they are currently in discussions with the Broncos. Just yesterday, Denver acquired an extra sixth-round draft pick by trading offensive lineman Chris Myers to the Texans, and they could use that pick in a Robertson trade.

The Broncos are attempting to restructure Robertson's contract, which has two years and $18 million remaining. Robertson's agent, Hadley Engelhard, didn't return calls. GM Mike Tannenbaum said recently that he expected Robertson to participate in the program, claiming the Jets still have a role for him even though they traded for nose tackle Kris Jenkins, but that was widely viewed as posturing.

Lets hope we pick up someone, the team needs another body up front and not just a rookie.

From what I hear, these negotiations have become so mangled they may never get sorted out.

Apparently, some promises were made early on in the talks regarding Robertsons' contract that have made things considerably more sticky than they needed to be.

If I understand correctly, the team trade compensation parameters have pretty much been in agreement for a while.

It's Robertsons' contract, not suprisngly that's the hold-up.

The guy was the 2nd highest paid DT in the league last year and his agent is still whining about the parameters of a new deal? What a load of crap. I would understand it if the guy was on chump change and wanted to get a big deal now but that wasn't the case at all.

How in the hell did we not pull of a Walker for Robertson trade. Two guys with questionable knees, Walker gets to be the big dog in NY and the top reciever.

I really odon't think going into free agency is a smart move by Robertson. The teams that have serious interest in him are the ones trying to trade for him and they aren't going to offer any more money then than they are now. There's a high likleyhood that he loses money by not redoing his contract now.

Although I guess the Raiders might throw 50 million his way.

if there is more than one team involved, you can bet one team will overpay

I know that's the theory, but don't you have to be a bit of a hot commodity in that situation? I really can't think of the teams that would get into a bidding war over the guy that weren't already trying to trade for him.

Division rivals are always a good place to look. Oakland never said a peep when Walker was being dangled in a trade, yet they were the first to jump all over him and overpay for his services.

well denver would make a huge mistake giving the guy big money.. so if that is what is holding it up dont do it. becuase if robertson knows he holds out he can make big money come june. forget it move on.. Dont lose it now bowlen DRAFT your tackles. we are starting to see that our scouting department is quality trust in them.

What do you care what Robertson costs. It's all monopoly money anyway. The cap really isn't real it can be manipulated to do whatever you want it to do. If Shanny and the training staff feels Robertson's knee will be fine and the draft compensation isn't too much go ahead and give him a big contract.... Who cares?

Isn't that the truth. I read somewhere that the Raiders where 19 million over the cap before they traded for Hall.
