Default Two draft prospects that we need to stay away from

Ex-Husker Nicks not at pro day

LINCOLN -- Former Nebraska offensive lineman Carl Nicks did not work out at NU pro day on Wednesday following an incident on Saturday at a party that resulted in him being jailed. Both Nicks and former NU receiver Maurice Purify were cited for suspicion of being inmates of a disorderly house. Nicks was also given a failure to disperse ticket and was jailed.

"It was way overblown,'' Purify said Wednesday.

Purify claimed that he and Nicks were in a basement room and couldn't hear what was going on upstairs as police cleared the house. When Nicks told officers he was staying at the house for four days, Purify said, he was arrested.

There were rumblings around pro day that Nicks would work out for scouts on his own, although that couldn't be confirmed. Purify worked out Wednesday after talking to receivers coach Ted Gilmore in the morning. He said he ran the 40 in 4.4 seconds and registered a vertical jump of 36 1/2 inches, both significantly better than his marks at the NFL Combine last month.

Purify also said he "definitely'' believes there will be an opportunity to fight the charges. It was the third legal incident in just more than 10 months for the California native.

I'm really not overly concerned about this incident. If it pushes Nicks down to our 2nd, I'd still take him in a heartbeat.

Hmmmmm, Nicks was slated to go in the 2nd anyway. Now if we trade down and Nicks is still there in the third I'd be all over it.

My problem wasn't the arrest, I know cops in college area can be real *****, but rather going to a party the night before your pro day. Shows that you might not be committed to getting your **** together.

It is a very legitimate concern. I wouldn't expect too many people to get blitzed the night before a job interview and this isn't any different. If we take a look into his background and find out that this is out of character for Nicks and he slides to the 3rd (depending on what we have already drafted), I would look into trading up for him.

Agreed. "Suspicion of being an inmate at a disorderly house" is a fairly ridiculous charge most of the time. I've seen people get slapped with it simply for trying to take the cops' time and explain the situation. The timing of the incident, however...

Hope you have gotten through to the staff with that message Pat. Doesn't do any good to put out that message and then the only casualties are on the non football staff.
