If the Broncos can't move down from #12, who would you like them to take? I formulated this list of players from a variety of mock drafts, using the players predicted to be selected by Denver, and players in obvious positions of need projected to possibly be available. Obviously a big name can always slip, but I was interested to know of the likely candidates, who the board prefers:
OT Jeff Otah, Pittsburgh OT Chris Williams, Vanderbilt WR Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma WR DeSean Jackson, Cal WR Limas Sweed, Texas WR Devin Thomas, Michigan State DT Kentwan Balmer, UNC MLB Dan Connor, Penn State OLB Keith Rivers, USC S Kenny Phillips, Miami Last edited by montrose; 03-11-2008 at 05:29 PM.. |

OT Jeff Otah, Pittsburgh Yeah I understand why we'd draft him
OT Chris Williams, Vanderbilt Yeah Not sure which guy Denver prefers WR Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma No WR Devin Thomas, Michigan State No Like him alot though WR DeSean Jackson, Cal No Need him not at 12 WR Limas Sweed, Texas No DT Kentwan Nalmer, UNC No OLB Keith Rivers, USC No MLB Dan Connor, Penn State No S Kenny Phillips, Miami No Illinois RB is the guy we should consider if we avoid OT at 12. You talking Mendenhall? If the big names are gone, Mendenhall becomes possible. Trading is dependeant upon other teams, so I just don't think anyone can plan on any trades.....

I suppose at this point I feel like we have 2 LTs and no RT (assuming Pears is much better equipped at LT than RT - given performance over the last 2 years); and I see Otah as projecting to RT better than Williams (right or wrong, feel free to comment) and paying more immediate dividends given his strength.
That being said, if these were the candidates, I'd be praying to trade down. |

I also picked Otah, as he translates to RT best. However, I think Rivers is the wild card, he's a player that would be the "Best Athelete Available" and would not be surprised if his number was called at 12.

I said Limas Sweed...and before anyone jumps on me, I'd like to say trading down is my first choice. But if that doesn't happen, i'd pick between stewart, mendenhall, or sweed(Desean will obviously be in the conversation because of his return abilities but ultimately returners can be had later...). I think Limas is going to be an elite WR in the NFL, and I think the two RBs are both going to be studs as well. So bringing in a playmaker for the offense is never a bad thing...
I don't like otah at 12, he's too much of an unproven talent right now and the comparisons to george foster are scary. So I think go offense at 12, and then a top RT like Cherilus in the second round would be a great first day. Fingers crossed for trading down and getting into the third round though!! We are all assuming Denver likes Williams or Otah they MIGHT not. I'd think they woul d like Long and Clady but, I think they will be gone.

I have had the opportunity to watch Rashard Mendenhall quite a bit and the man has tremendous feet- the anti Tatum Bell. His running style is a bit of a compilation of Terrell Davis and Clinton Portis. I am not an Illini homer (J. Leman - MLB will make a terrible Pro- WAY too slow), I feel that Mendenhall has the vision to be in our system and could be a perennial all pro if healthy....

I went with Williams. All this talk about taking a RB in the first round is just silly. We have a full stable of RB's and it would be a huge mistake using the #12 on a back when the draft is full of quality backs to begin with. WR could be a option but i would much rather improve the line before adding another WR at that pick.

Maybe we go CHerilius in round 2 as someone else mentioned.... or maybe we draft a stud LT anyway to pave the way for the future. |

I have thought about the O-line situation a lot. I think we all want a blue chip prospect that will protect Cutler for a long time. Someone who has all the tools - strength, size, great feet, etc.. We also don't to pick a George Foster.
I have said before that I think our LT is already on the team (between Harris, Pears, and apparently Kuper). I think RT is where we could work in a rookie by mid season. We need someone with a mean streak and high upside. I think that best player is Branden Albert. I like players that already have the size (6'7" 315), already have the motivation, and just need coaching to be elite. It would be a coup to trade down for him, but I still think he would be a good value and an easy contract negotiation at #12. The following video has some breakdown by Mayock of Albert: http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d806b5815 |

I say RT because I think it is the better place for him to start, but I guess on either side, we could keep Graham in there to make sure he doesn't get Cutler hurt while learning his new position. |

I put other. I don't think a single person up there is worth the 12th pick overall. I also doubt that every single guy listed as "gone" for sure won't be there at 12.
