Default The Wire Series Finale

Should have made this thread earlier in the day, but it was pretty damn awesome.

This is the only season I've watched of The Wire, and I'm going to try and download/rent/etc the first five. Fantastic show.

I can say from living there for so long, they replicate Baltimore very well; as did Homicide back in the 90's.

A fitting ending to a great show. Just another day in Baltimore. Corruption leads to more corruption, the lines between good and bad are often blurred, humanity is flawed, yet we all just go on and live with it. As much as you try to fix the system, the system always finds a way to win.

Seriously, this is the best drama EVER on TV. And if you thought this season was good, I actually think it was only the 4th best. The fourth season is probably the best season of TV that i've ever seen.

God bless the Wire!!!!

I'm with you guys all the way on this one. My younger brother got me hooked on it from the first episode. My wife wouldn't watch it the first three seasons, but she caught an episode at the start of season four and we went out and bought the first three seasons on DVD so she could catch up. Best show on television ever, IMHO. Sad to see it end. Looks like the creative team behind it has a new series coming to HBO later this year called "Generation Kill" based on the book by Evan Wright, an embedded reporter from Rolling Stone. I've just finished reading Wright's book after reading the book "One Bullet Away" written by Nathaniel Fick (the Marine Recon Company's Commander to whom Wright was assigned). As a former Recon Marine, I consider these two books (when combined) to be the finest accounting (especially when read back to back, start with Fick's first) of modern infantry combat I've ever read. I'm really looking forward to the series. In the hands of "The Wire"'s writing and directing team, it should be nothing short of outstanding. Can't wait.

I get back to Atlanta on Wed. and might be able to help you out on this note. It is actually a total of five seasons counting this one. I have 1-4 on DVD and will get 5 in December when it should be out. I have a trick burner for disks, let me know if you are interrested. You can still get all of season five "On-Demand" on Comcast in Atlanta. If you want to tape/DVR it, then after the other four seasons you could finish up with season five.

I for one am glad it's over(Joking). I have not been able to sleep after watching it the last 2 weeks.

It is just a great show. I wish that there were more TV like this, I just can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this show over the years.

I have been hooked since the first season.

Good read from the NYtimes:

I had been meaning to start watching this show, but I've been a big fan of The Shield since it came out and there just isn't enough room in my life for both shows.

So...

I got a new plasma with a QUAM(?) tuner and it discovers the Comcast on-demand channels. If someone plays something on Demand in my area I get it also, FOR FREE, until I got the HD box but that is another story.

Someone kept playing this show but I never caught the start so I didn't know what it was but liked it alot.

The Mayor looks just like our Circuit provider rep.

Anyway it wasn't until today that I figured out the name. Hope to find someone with the series that I can borrow (ATLAS?).

No problem, man. As for the books: Fick's gives you the perspective of a military commander i.e. tactics, issues, responsabilities. Wright's is more about the individuals involved, the emotions, personalities, and the affect the war has on them. They really do compliment each other in a great way. There were parts that were gripping, on the edge of your seat type material. There were parts that had me laughing out loud. There were also parts that drew tears. This is in both books. Can't recommend them enough. Drop you a line in a couple of days.

tactics, issues, responsabilities.

That is exactly what I am interested in. After reading those kinds of things on the front lines, my bad work day's don't seem so bad.

Amen. It certainly does help me regain my perspective from time to time. As my Dad says "at least there isn't anyone shooting at me today"!

Apologies for resurrecting a really old thread (I just searched on titles including "Wire" and picked the most recent), but had to pass along a tremendous article that the resident The Wire fans will enjoy. It's an outtake from a book called Difficult Men: Behind the Scenes of a Creative Revolution: From The Sopranos to Mad Men to Breaking Bad. Great read.
