I've loved watching Favre over the years as much as any QB not named Elway. I have a little bit of an issue over how he went out though. Saying "it's not about the records, it was about how I played the game" when if you look at how he left he was clearly only playing the game for the records.
He said that the odds were long on the Packers winning the SB, and tht anything less would be a let down. However if anything, the Packers are a serious contender for the first time in three years. But the records aren't there to chase. If he wasn't just playing for the records there is no way he would have suffered through the '05 and '06 seasons. Being a huge Elway fan, I feel cheated a little that he hung around just to pass some of Elways records. |

said it before i like the guy but the way he went out in his last game... a superbowl right in his hands and all he has to do is drive 40 or so yards for the (likely)game winning fg and he throws his second boneheaded int. of the game. just typical of his career but no luck to bail him out one more time. |

I see exactly where you guys are coming from and I've long said Favre was chasing records but you can't really call this unless you're actually inside his head. Sure he got all the records and might have been able to win a SB next year... or the team could've reverted to pre-2007 and he could've been sitting at home during the playoffs next year. This could actually be a matter of him preserving his current gains and, in his eyes, going out on top. He took the youngest team to the NFC Championship game and they went into OT with the eventual SB champs... that's quite a going away. It's not a SB but it's pretty dad-gum good and after the season's he's had lately, you can't blame him for not wanting to risk it again. If he's content right now, I'm glad to see one of the all time greats going out knowing he was on top and wont be lumped in with Emmit and Jerry Rice who stayed around long after their days were over.

I'm not a fan, fueled by the media hype but to pen this article, to release it at the end of a huge career is... I don't know how to put it. I guess John was crap except for 2 lucky years, and that was because of TD?

I'm torn on the whole "sticking around for records" thing. Favre was good, but pretty overrated IMO.
I'm not saying he didn't earn the records, but in all honesty he was one game away from being Dan Marino. Now I am not sucking up here........but the Patriots got to the '97 SB instead of Denver because of that freaky Jax win. I still feel that if Denver got there they would've beat Green Bay...especially since it would've been their first real chance at a SB win. The thing people will most remember about Favre is the ironman thing with the string of games started ad QB - that is impressive. |

If not for a stumble in the 96 playoffs against the Jags we would have ran it down GB's throat in the SB that year. Without that ONE SB win Favre is another Marino. Maybe worse with all his RECORD BREAKING INTS.....HA

If you think the Bledsoe-led Patriots were taking a win out of Denver that year you're crazy. It would have had to have been as big a fluke game as the Jax game. |
