So it looks like the Cards will be forced to make him a june 1st what kind of contract do you think he gets and would you like to see him in denver? he has to see something bigger than the deal javon got I would think. Marshall and Fitz would be one hell of a 1,2 punch doubt it happens but hey I can dream.

Won't happen. There is no way we can pay Fitz top dollar, then turn around and pay Marshall that too. We just need to find a speedy receiver that can stretch the field, that wont be too much.

the cards better keep them, what a joke franchise. they knew boldin was good when they drafted fitz. two great receivers isn't a huge hamstring even if you gotta pay em both in today's NFL.

what happened was cards wrote some insane escalators into the contract based on performance. They never expected Fitz to hit them all like he did. It boosts his base salary these last 2 yrs through the roof. Fitz says he wants to be in ariz but the fact he won't restructure for less then 25 mil garaunteed sort of makes it look like he wants to be cut.

He's just too expensive for Broncos but Marshall and Fitz would be a terror.

We could aford him with Marshall, as long as we were to sign him this year and give him a front loaded deal. Marshall is under control cheap for '08 and '09. Use our cap room available this year to get a big chunk of Fitz's bonus off the books, give Marshall a new below market deal the next season so he starts making $5M per in '09 instead of $500K like he would otherwise and betting on a big '09 to get a few mill extra in the open market (that he wouldn't see, since we could tag him).

Its entirely doable, as long as its a plan that gets put into action now while we have some extra cap room to play with. I don't think it'll happen though, it just doesn't really fit Shanahan's style to have two upper echelon WRs, he prefers a single go to guy at WR with the TE playing the 2nd reciever role, we already have a guy (or two) for that job.

One of the risks teams take when they start doing funny things with salary is that they set themselves up for a problem if someone doesn't want to hold up their end of the bargain.

An example: Say player A signed for 5 years on a front loaded contract (team had some open space) so he gets a 10 mil signing bonus, 5 mil salary each year, and a 5 year roster bonus in his first two years. After those two years, his salary dropped to 2 mil per year with smaller bonuses. Now once this player passes this high front end, he can force his way out and start over elsewhere.

On the opposite side, teams can backload a contract (as the Cards did with these big incentives) and they can force the player to play for peanuts knowing that the payoff will be big when those incentives are triggered. Then, just before it actually comes time to pay those incentives he had already earned, they start telling him to restructure and accusations arrise of him not being a "team guy". How does that make sense? The guy TRIGGERED those incentives, he's already earned that pay. Why should he have to step down and give back a large portion of that money when I'm sure that was a negotiating point in him signing that contract. He probably would've gotten a little more money in the overall deal if there'd been no incentives (the team basically gambles that he'll be cheaper by giving him incentives rather that just handing him a little more pay). That's his money, there's no way I'd give any of it back either. They can find a way to make it more cap friendly and as long as the amount in his pocket doesn't change, I can't imagine he'd resist. Time to pay the piper...

There is no need to have a boat load of money tied up in the WR position. You don't need a pair of superstar WRs to win the Super Bowl. That money would be better spent in other areas.

Someone please watch last year's games again. Our problem wasn't that we didn't have guys open. The problem was that Cutler didn't have enough time during the tough games. On almost every busted third down play, you see either Stokely or Marshall starting to get open, but no time to get it there.

Please, please, please remember that.

The most important failure last year - we couldn't run the ball in (inside the five yard line).

And we couldn't protect Cutler from a good D-line.

I think our defense will improve to at least marginal just based on scheme. We need to find our O-line dominance again if we are ever to see our Broncos back to the Superbowl. That's a fact.

I love Fitz, but we don't need him to win. As long as Marshall stays healthy, we should be good.

the thing with ariz is that if they dont re-structure fitz they are hosed he puts them against the cap and they only have like 50 players signed for the up coming season that is not including the draft so they will have to do something to get their cap in order and be able to sign their rookies.

what this means: Fitz has two choices he can force a trade or get himself cut either way he will get his cash his re-structure demands are too high for the cards and they have to do something just to be able to field a D and sign their rookies.

I am more than willing to bet that Ariz will move pick 16 so they can avoid the salary implications.

The cards front office really screwed themselvs with this one.

money doesn't work like that. they let fitz go and that money might just as likely be spent on tommey kelley level players.

As idiotic as the T Kelly deal was, he isn't costing the Fade $19 million against the cap this season. Thats the issue with Fitz. I can't imagine ANY player worth keeping that is costing $19M against the cap. People can say the Cards would be dumb to let Fitz go all they want. The fact that Fitz won't restructure means that the Cards have no choice but to move him. It's pretty much etched in stone.

I heard John Clayton this morning, and the Cardinals are really screwed on the cap - more screwed than I've ever heard any team. Apparently, they cannot sign ANYBODY right now, and have only 16 defensive players under contract, "not enough to field a team," according to Clayton.
