Don't know if anyone really cares, but it is worthy to note that today, March 6th, is the 25th anniversary of the first ever USFL game. Even though the league only lasted three years (1983-1985), it was one helluva league. Not only did the USFL produce many future NFL players, coaches, and personnel, but it had some great rules (Instant Replay) and some great logos, team nicknames and great uniforms. If anyone has any good USFL memories post away!

I sold programs for the Denver Jaycees from 83-85. Getting the Gold was pretty cool it gave us something to do in the spring. I was there for the USFL championship in 83' and the post game riot was one of the most frightening things I have ever experienced. Of course I was 13 at the time, I remember a cop just getting wiped out with an Igloo cooler and that's when we figured it was time to go.
Having Red Miller and later Craig Morton as the coaches was pretty neat and gave the team a little foothold from the get go. I remember Putt Choate being my favorite Gold player since his name was bada$$. |

I was wondering why they were playing the USFL Championships on ESPN Classic today.

I went to the last ever USFL game; the 1985 Championship between the Philadelphia Stars and the Oakland Invaders.
Bobby Hebert QB'd the Invaders, and I think Chuck Fusina QB's the Stars, with Kelvin Bryant toting the rock. I remember it being a very entertaining game too. Jim "playoffs?" Mora coached one of the teams too. Mora coached the Philadelphia Stars against Hebert I think, and two years later, they were bringing the Saints to the playoffs. Hell, Sam Mills also was a USFL'er. Man those Saints did a nice job syphoning that league. |

I have an original tape of the first USFL Championship game, at old Mile High.
