Default Packers now have a monumental task on their hands

History has shown us that replacing a first ballot hall of famer who is revered as a legend is extremely hard. Just ask the teams that have tried to do just that.

John Elway retired after winning his second Super Bowl and was considered among many to be in the top 2 or 3 all time. Denver struggled to find his replacement as they looked first to his heir on their own roster in Brian Griese. After souring on Griese, the Broncos took a shot on veteran Jake Plummer. After experiencing brief periods of success, neither seemed to be the long term answer. Jay Cutler looks to be able to fill in the void finally after only 10 years since Elways retirement.

Dan marino did not win a Super Bowl, but did retire with many of the passing records firmly under his belt. His replacement search was even rockier as they trotted out Fiedler, Feeley, Frerotte, Lemon, and even Harrington under center and none has proved to be adequate enough.

The 49 ers appeared to buck the tred for a while when Montana departed and HOFer Steve Young stepped in and they didn't miss a beat. However, since then the 49ers have tried to find a replacement in the servicable but not spectacular Garcia, first round pick Alex Smith, and journeymen Trent Dilfer and Tim Rattay.

Troy Aikman, although usually not considered an all time great, caused quite the revolving door when he left as well. He has been replaced by such greats as Quincy Carter and Chad Hutchinson, and past their prime players in Vinney Testaverde and Drew Bledsoe. They seem to have found a QB finally in Tony Romo, though some question his ability to play at that level his whole career.

None of these teams have reached the Super Bowl since the retirement of their respective HOF/All time great quarterbacks.

Obviously people like Elway, Young, Marino, and Montana don't just roll off of a production line. It seems appearant though that having such a huge part of your franchise retire leaves quite the void that takes a long time to fill back in.

To the fans of the Patriots and Colts, enjoy it while you can. To the fans of the Packers: hold on for a bumpy ride.

Rodgers looked really good last year in the time he filled in for Brett, give him a chance.

Rogers almost lead the team to defeating the Cowboys this last season!!

History might show one thing, but there are exceptions to the rule! I think Rogers has the best change of all I've seen to be that exception.

Will Aaron Rodgers be the first Tedford coached QB to not be a bust in the NFL?

Rogers looked good against the cowboys, a lot better than Favre did. However I doubt anyone has gameplanned for anyone other than Farve when they play the packers for like 85 years.

Rodgers is going to be fine, he's entering his 4th season with the Packers, he knows the team just as good as anyone, he knows the offense. He doesnt have to carry the team, they have a good defense, and a great young recieving core.

If he cant succeed in this situation, then he is not starter quality in the NFL.

I see no reason why the packers wont be able to win 10 games this coming season with Aaron Rodgers at the helm.
