Clady Continues Push Long for Top OT

Less than a week after an estimated 40 scouts attended the University of Miami's Pro Day, more than 50 attended Boise State's workout.
My, how things have changed.
The scouts flocked to Boise to have an opportunity to view junior offensive tackle Ryan Clady. While Clady may lack the name recognition of other elite talents in this draft, some scouts consider him to be a better long-term left tackle prospect for than Michigan's Jake Long.
Clady measured in at a shade more than 6-feet-6 and 309 pounds. His arms were measured at 36 3/4 inches, tying him with late-round prospect Franklin Dunbar from Middle Tennessee State as the offensive lineman with the longest arms in this year's draft class.
Clady was timed between 5.15 and 5.23 seconds in the 40-yard dash, according to scouts in attendance. He also posted a 31-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot broad jump. Clady's lateral agility and strong hands were obvious during drills.
The Carolina Panthers, owners of the 13th overall pick, met with Clady on Sunday night. He has a private meeting scheduled with the Chicago Bears, who have the 14th pick, next week. The Kansas City Chiefs (fifth), Baltimore Ravens (eighth) and Cincinnati Bengals (ninth) are also thought to have shown extra interest.
Clady elected not to participate in the bench press after posting 24 repetitions at 225 pounds at the Combine. While completing the bench press drill in Indianapolis, Clady strained his pectoral muscle, forcing the rest of the workout to be postponed until Monday. The day before sustaining the injury, he had informed media at the Combine that he planned to do the full workout.
Boise State's other likely draft choice -- cornerback Orlando Scandrick -- elected not to run Monday after posting a 4.33 at the Combine, good for second among all cornerbacks. He did perform in defensive back drills, showing a smooth backpedal, easy flip and turn and good agility in and out of his breaks.

Hmmm... looks like Clady might be off the board before the 12th pick now.

As far as I know, the Broncos haven't given any indication that they're looking at Clady. To the contrary, Shanahan stated in his last press conference that he feels pretty good about Harris and Pears as tackles for next year.

Which is probably a smoke screen, a la Jay Cutler in 2006, meaning they ARE interested in Clady.

Exacitally.

How on earth could someone feel good about Harris and Pears?

1. Strong drugs (was Shanahan the driver in the Marcus Thomas incident?)
2. Mental illness (would also explain the 2002 - 2004 drafts)
3. Blood relation to either (although even Pears' mother wants us to draft Clady)
4. Extremely inept evaluation of pro personnel (no comment....)

Sounds like we could be interested him. Also keep an eye on Kuper moving outside next year.

The Broncos have been interested in Clady since before the Senior Bowl. Don't you guys pay attention to my threads and posts?

Regarding Req - don't ask; don't tell!

One of the most knowledgable draft guys here imo though.

There are a lot of teams in desperate need of defensive and offensive tackles; so it's almost a given that the Broncos will be looking that direction early on in the draft.

I was told a few months ago that the Broncos were really interested in Clady and Baker, because they were protypical pass blocking LT who would fit well into Denver's ZBS. That's sort of common sense, but the information came from a guy who I really consider reliable.

We're picking at #12 and #42; there are several teams (more than three I'd say) who are in desperate need of an offensive tackle. If those teams don't take a tackle before #12, they'll take one with their respective picks before #42, IMHO.

Denver has Harris and Pears as full time tackles right now, and sure we have guys like Kuper who could swing out to RT if we needed, but do we necessarily want to do that?

Jake Long isn't going to be at #12, and chances are Clady will impress and perhaps land to a team above us.

Carolina and Chicago and some other teams behind us could be interested in a tackle as well, so there you have Christopher Williams and Jeff Otah possibly being off the board. After that, you have Sam Baker - who seems to be sliding a little bit due to injury concerns, but he'd still make a solid middle of the pack first round selection.

If the Broncos stay put at #12, I'd assume Williams or Clady would be the selection; pending who is on board. If they get a good enough offer to trade down, (say perhaps Dallas) then I could see Sam Baker being there guy around there.

I just don't think Denver can wait for an offensive tackle. There are 5-6 guys who have great potential and either Williams, Clady, Otah or Baker somewhere in the first would make excellent picks for the Broncos in my opinion. I'd like to see Otah get back into shape though.

I guess I'm forgetting about Gosder Cherilus, who could be a mauler RT for us and allow Harris to develop as our finesse pass blocking LT. He might be the sleeper pick out of all the tackles for us.

Like Wabbit said, tackle seems to be the priority. It's just a matter of who.

Is it worth Denver taking Clady/Williams at #12, or should they gamble - trade down and see who is left in the middle to the 20's of the first round?

I'm tempted to gamble, and if the offer is right - it's realistic to assume we'll do it. If Denver could end up getting a second, or perhaps a third and a five to move down - that'd really help. It has to be worth it though, because the difference between the first round tackles (Baker, Clady, Long, Williams, Otah, Cherilus) is pretty significant compared to the Tony Hill's, Heath Benedict's, and Carl Nick's of the world.

We'll see though, but tackle is pretty much a lock.

Well I think I might be wrong. I didnt think he would be picked till late teens/early 20s but seems he will be jumped on early (I hope so, I would rather C. Williams).

I think Clady is going to be gone by #12, and if he's gone I think the Broncos should trade back take Branden Albert. Chris Williams would be a decent value at #12, but I think Albert will develop into at least as good of a player and would give us the added bonus of getting extra picks that could be used to bolster our DT, LB, WR, and S corps.

I could see williams @ 12 after his combine the only thing I was worried about was his bench. Clady dosnt seem to be much stronger than williams sounds like he had 23 reps? but that can improve for both from what I have herd Clady has better feet but Williams sounds like the better pass blocker. I think our pick will be predicated on what happens with ellis and dorsey. if dorsey slips due to injury concern are people moveing to get him? do we trade down? I like Ellis alot and I would love to see thomas and ellis on the same d-line. I may have to go get some late night tacos and attempt to figure out where we are gonna go with this one.
