Broncos agreed to terms with DE Ebenezer Ekuban on a one-year, $1.12 million contract.
Ekuban, 31, is coming off a torn Achilles' tendon and won't be a good bet to play 16 games in 2008, but is worth another look at this rate. He won't be guaranteed a roster spot or a job in Denver's five-man DE rotation. Now that's a very reasonable contract just above the NFL vet minimum. |

this is getting as bad as the toronto media raggin on mats sundin for not waiving his no trade clause, well DUH dont give it to him then. why is integrity only questioned when its the player showing a lack of it, and not when its a team showing it has none, or a player showing he has it. |

No problem with a signed contract BUT a huge ? mark was throw into the mix (is it cool to take that into concideration?) or just throw the money away. Lets put it this way (you want to buy a car) you go look at it and drive it (and it's great) so you go to the bank to get your money and come back only to find it started blowing smoke when you started it again. 1- do you pay the money anyways (because you're a man of your word) 2- or do you walk away? Javon is saying (ya it's smoking) and i still want full price even though i don't know if it will even take you to the end of the block. |

if its a new car then yes i do, it will ahve a warranty, if it dosent then i dont buy it in the first place, that warranty would be being making the contract incentive laden, wont do it, theni dont sign the player or buy the car. you can never ever let anybody know you want something badly if you want to get a good deal on it, the second you do your screwed, be it player, car, computer, anything, always have to be willing to walk away. |

Not a fair analogy. The broncos knew he had a past knee problem and took the chance to sign him anyway. He's entitled to the contract he signed |

Lost in all this Javon had a contract so he should tell them to F off is the fact that if he is healthy and he had made it back. Reworking his contract with the Broncos would have made him the most money.

Didn't Javon force his way out of Green Bay because he wanted a new contract? So it's alright for him to reneg on a deal but not us?

We knew what he was capable of the question was and why he was sent down the road was (how long would he last) obviously our medical staff thought his injury was going to be a (on going problem) so who do you believe when making a decision to keep him or not at that price when the money can go to other needs? Man this just seems like a no brainer to me sure he was a fan favorite but that seems to be getting in the way of rational thought here. |

dont get me wrong bronx, i agree with getting rid of him, the risk wasnt worth it, I also dont blame the team for trying to get him to redo the deal, But its nuts to make him out to be the bad guy because he didnt. He did what he had to do for himself, and the team did what they had to do for themselves.

Ekuban determined to win back starting DE spot
By Lee Rasizer, Rocky Mountain News The way Ebenezer Ekuban sees it, he’s about 85 percent healed from his Achilles tendon tear. He’s also fully determined to win back the starting job he lost when he went down in Dallas last August. Ekuban re-signed with the Broncos as a free agent over the weekend on a one-year deal. “I expect to compete,” said Ekuban, who started 19 of 31 games he played since Denver acquired him in 2005 before his injury. “ . . . And I’d be lying to you if I said I don’t expect to start. I’ve been a starter in this league and feel I’m a starting caliber defensive end.” Ekuban, 31, visited Oakland on Friday before quickly deciding to bypass multiple visits elsewhere. His current rehabilitation may cut into the first couple weeks of the Broncos’ upcoming strength-and-conditioning program but isn’t expected to lag into mini-camps. The biggest issue currently for Ekuban in his comeback bid is regaining full strength in his right calf. “I’m fine. I feel good,” he said. “By May I should be full strength football-wise to compete. Everything’s healing up the way it’s supposed to be.” Ekuban is the third in-house player to re-sign with Denver. He follows defensive end John Engelberger and tight end Nate Jackson. The Broncos otherwise opened free agency in quiet fashion. Denver’s first outside acquisition was wide receiver Keary Colbert, a 2004 second-round pick of the Carolina Panthers. He’ll add depth to a group that will proceed without Javon Walker and have a chance to start. Colbert has 109 career catches for 1,424 yards and seven TDs but ended last season on injured reserve with a right knee injury. He’ll get $2.4 million per season on a three-year deal. The Broncos over the weekend also hosted linebacker Niko Koutivides and safety Sammy Knight. The two sides are still discussing a contract with Koutivides, a former Seattle Seahawks special-teams standout, but the player left town without an agreement. Denver doesn’t appear to have the same level of interest in Knight and will host two other safeties this week: Marlon McCree (Chargers) on Wednesday and Marquand Manuel (Panthers) on Friday. The Broncos also are expected to host linebacker Boss Bailey (Lions) on Wednesday. The team has a void in the starting lineup after Ian Gold’s release, which could be filled by the brother of Denver Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey. http://www.rockymountainnews.com/new...rting-de-spot/ |
