Default SIRIUS NFL Radio: Cowboys and Broncos discussing deal for Javon Walker

Nothing too earth shattering for today's Javon news, just thought I'd pass on the word:

Zig Fracassi from Sirius NFL Radio's Afternoon Blitz just reported that the Broncos are Cowboys are discussing a deal that would send Javon Walker to Dallas. Fracassi said Denver's compensation would likely be a Conditional 2009 late round draft pick, but mostly discussed how Walker and Owens would (or wouldn't) coexist.

Apparently there are several hangups including Walker's ability to pass a physical and most importantly, his current contract. Because of his current contract, they said the deal is highly unlikely to go down and that Dallas would likely wait until Walker becomes a free agent next week.

Oh man please send him to Dallas. That would be everything he DOESN'T want. But alas third person will nix any contract reduction.

Ah buts a conditional pick. That means the higher 3rd person performs the higher the pick, I bet.

If people are actually talking, I think it would be a bad idea for Dallas to let him get out on the open market.

The problem is that you guys gave him a ridiculous contract that nobody wants to pick up. Once he gets cut that contract is nixxed.

this would never work....

Owens and Walker would be b****ing about their teammates not throwing them enough passes during Madden matchups

The problem for Dallas is Walker probably doesn't want to share the limelight with Owens. If Baby TO made him jealous then imagine what real TO will do. A trade would make him theirs whereas he walks and he goes where he wants.

I think the question here is which is more important. Cash or draft picks. Denver could get a better pick by picking up the bonus and then trading him. On the other hand, they can save money but get almost no compensation. With a $116 Mil cap, I think draft picks may be more valuable.

I actually think Javon would fit in well in Dallas. I don't buy into the Javon needing the limelight as much as I buy into Javon wanting to get paid in 2008 and beyond. Jerry Jones would have no problem dishing out the dough for Javon if he thought he'd be productive, and if he's healthy - Javon could put up some huge numbers with T.O. on the other side of the field and Jason Witten splitting the safeties. As fas the limelight does, Dallas is about as high profile a team as it gets - there's plenty of spotlight for Walker along with T.O., Romo and co.

I would rather get a conditional pick than nothing when they cut him. Have to look at it as get what you can.

I agree with you here. The question then becomes, why not pay him here? One less need to fill.

Even if he gets traded, it's not like he has ever hesitated to cry his way out of a situation he doesn't like. If Dallas isn't for Javon, why would Javon hesitate to do what is right for Javon and force Dallas to cut him? The rights to a player like him aren't all that valuable. I think if Dallas trades for him, they will have already talked to his agent about what they expect of him in terms of contract reworking and his role on the team. If Javon isn't down with what Dallas expects, why would Dallas give up anything for him? He's a seriously flawed player.

Let's see, that's Tampa Bay, Washington, and Dallas that are supposedly interested in Javon.

Which probably means the team will get nothing in return for him. Huge cap hit with nothing to show for it. And to top it off, Javon still walk away with millions.

unless Matt Millen swoops in and makes a deal, I just don't see a team trading for Walker.

I am still holding out hope that they reach some sort of acceptance as to what happened and move on. Essentially that Walker comes back.

Because Shanny doesn't want him here. Dead cap money, needs, draft picks - Shanny doesn't care. If he doesn't want you on his football team, you're not here.

You couldn't be more right about a player's rights not meaning much. Walker and his agent have given no indication they'd be willing to rework his deal. I do think Dallas is one of the few teams that could trade for him without redoing his deal and just pay him - based on Jones' past.

But at the end of the day, its already been reported by multiple sources including John Clayton and Mr. Broncos-News Adam Schefter, that Javon will be released.

I think most Broncos fans would like to see a resolution because Walker has been a productive player in the past and quite frankly - we're on the hook for his money anyway. At the end of the day, both parties know its best to move on. Javon can go get a new deal with the new team of his choice while Shanny can get rid of a headache while clearing his books to later resign Marshall, Scheffler, Dumervil, Williams, Paymah, etc.

Getting a deal (Both trade and Contract) worked out by Thursday is going to be hard, not impossible, to do.

Not to mention that knee isn't healthy. We all saw after the scope and down time and he wasn't the same player he was in Sept.

Please, Javon is a self rightous prick and would b**** and moan about not getting the ball regardless of how much his contract is worth. He would rather play on a crap team and be the Man than play for a superbowl and be second fiddle. He has made that clear twice now.

The cap hit is not such a big concern for Bowlen and the team this year. They're posturing with the union right now and are just tired of paying millions to players for working out in the pool and complaining. The feeling is that its not necessary to spend every penny one possibly can every single season. Javon's option bonus is over 5 million, ultimately out of Bowlen's pocket.

The injued knee is becoming a major decision maker for all involved in discussing the future of Walker. When healthy he has more than proved his worth. The childish attitude is a major setback that will be more difficult to pass a mental examination versus the knee passing a physical.

We messed this up? By letting him get injured? By letting Brandon Marshall get on the field and prove he's going to be the #1 receiver regardless of Javon's health thus bruising Javon's ego?

One person alone messed this up, and that's Javon Walker.

I said Dallas for a reason. Walker isn't going to go to dallas on purpose, I doubt he wants to be a #2 anywhere, so thats a definate no for him. Thanks for playing.
