In two months, Trevor Laws has undergone a total-body overhaul worthy of a late-night infomercial.

Between lost body fat and increased weight, he has added about 30 pounds of lean muscle. He said he has bench-pressed 225 pounds, the NFL industry standard, 31 times. He sometimes works out three times a day, always eats five times a day.

The change is complete. For all his trouble, the former Notre Dame defensive tackle has become an 85-year-old man.

"Me and my girlfriend are probably laying down at 8:30 every night," Laws said. "My dad is making fun of me, saying I go to bed earlier than him now."

Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and ... well, that's potentially enough. Despite his team's 3-9 implosion last fall, perhaps no one on Notre Dame's roster helped himself more than Laws, who returned for a fifth season almost specifically to barrel his way onto the NFL radar screen.

His team-high 112 tackles were the first step. Now the endgame to Laws' gambit is nigh at the NFL combine.

"I really wish we had a winning season," Laws said. "Besides that, I'm healthy, I had a great year, a good Senior Bowl. To this point, things have pretty much gone as good as they can go for me."

The Irish's lack of a bowl appearance accelerated Laws' transition to an NFL-ready frame. By mid-December, he was out in Irvine, Calif., doing what most any draft prospect does: undergoing the complete NFL makeover.

It is a six-day workout week. A two-hour conditioning and agility session begins at 7:45 a.m. Twice a week there is field work, running through drills, at noon. Then it's back into the weight room at 2 p.m. for the gamut of power lifts, snatches, cleans, dead lifts, squats and bench presses.

In the morning, Laws picks up a cooler full of five prepared meals for about 5,000 calories a day, which he pre-orders through a Web site. The variety -- filet mignon, fish, pasta -- is geared to amplifying the workouts.

None of this is groundbreaking. All of it is necessary to craft a commodity that fits an NFL mold.

"My body has changed immensely," Laws said. "I just changed the type of weight I had on. I put on muscle, but I also lost tons of body fat, so I got a lot more power, a lot more speed. I'm just feeling pretty good right now."

Wow... in the extended version at that link, it says he's now 6'1 305 but I remember him being just about that at the senior bowl, or within about 10 lbs of that. That means he lost 20 lbs of fat and replaced it with muscle and then tacked on 10 more pounds of muscle. That's a great reworking but I wonder how much that really works for the player when they have to do complete overhauls. Don't you think they got used to playing in the body they had before? And while the size could be impressive, is this something they expect him to keep on? I don't imagine he'll have time to maintain everything once he actually gets to the NFL...

He's a player that I like a lot and actually, he is the DT I would most like to see Denver get. If we could get him in the 3rd, that would be swell.

Yeah...I also like Dre Moore, but the bigger bodies seem to be rather soft this year.

I disagree on Moore. He actually has a weight lifting record at Maryland (power clean I think). He doesnt have a lot of football experience though. He might have some upside. I think he is a good strength/mobility combination. Plus he plays more downs than some of the guys like Bryant for example.

Its gotta be impossible to add 30 lbs of muscle in two months. Probably not even with steroids.

No it can be done with or without steroids. Much of the Muscle is probably muscle that is just coming back after the season. Now if he were trained athlete who trained for a year and then in 2 months put on 30 lbs of muscle only gear can give gains like that. Another issue is 30s to a 300 lb man is different than 30 lbs on a 185 lb man.

I am calling BS on this. I train at Golds gym...and it is full of roid heads. The only way you throw on 30 lbs of muscle and cut away fat in a 2 month period is with Roids (add in some HGH) and some Winnie to cut the fat. This would be a Lyle Alzado type of cycle.

That would be very disappointing if a high character, hard working guy sold it out last minute to impress at the combine. I'm sure doctors will know better than any of us and this'll trigger questions from NFL scouts and staff just the same as it does us. If he rises, it must be legit... if he falls, we may know why.

I was a competitive Bodybuilder. I have seen people much smaller do 20 lbs Clean. For a man his size to do 30 would not be impossible.
Winnie would get flagged in a drug test. It is used because it cuts down on excess water retention.

I'm calling BS on the entire thing... This is just a puff piece not unlike 100's of other this time of year.

He and his agent are trying to explain why this semi productive college athlete is suddenly rising up draft boards.

Well if anybody figures out how to add 30lbs of muscle in two months let me know how and where I can get it cause i guess im pretty much wasting my time lifting and eating.

Considering that muscle is 70% water, do this... Get severely dehydrated and take the "Before" photos. Then spend 2 weeks re-hydrating and add 15 mg of creatine per day. At the end take your "after" photos, make up a BS story for how you did it, and write a bestseller "30Lbs of muscle in 30 Days"

30 pounds in 61ish days? sure you could do that...... half a pound a day, just take in 1500 more calories then u burn, make alot of it protien, lift ur ass off, throw in conditioning, u gotta take into consideration guys hes not balancing a hectic life schedule, this is his job right now

But that's the problem... throw in 1500 calories but then how many is he burning by working out all day? Players find it hard to keep on weight as the season goes on and they have professionals doing all their meals, training, etc... this guy is working his body harder than it's ever been worked and he's gonna tack on 30 lbs of muscle that fast? I don't know enough to say whether it's legit or not but I definitely figure it has to be harder than just taking in an extra half lb a day.

Ok Im officially throwing the BS flag..... I did 11 pushups and 13 situps this morning. Only 10 pushups this evening and 8 situps ( two a days). I couldnt even get through the workout. Even though I pushed myself, I still look like chet in the mirror. Impossible!
