If Walker does go, will the Broncos be more likely to sign a FA WR to start w/ Marshall, or try to land one in the draft? I'd think FA since a rookie probably wouldn't be ready to start for a while.

I'd have no problem letting Martinez compete for the spot with either a cheap vet FA or rookie. I know a lot of folks around here don't have any faith in him, but I liked what I saw from him this season.
Also, having Stokley in the slot and Schef at TE really negates the need for a #1a-type WR opposite Marshall IMO. And if Bowlen really is tightening up the purse, I'd rather the Broncos spend their limited funds in other positions......namely OT and DT. |

Yeah I agree. We can get away with Marshall as the go to guy for now, with Shef lined up and Stokely in the slot. As long as we get our running game and Oline fixed and something to fear we can do damage, offensively like this.

You have to love his heart and effort, but he should barely be our #3 WR if things were right in Denver. I would rather pass more to Scheff and Graham, than see us seriously try to make Martinez into a bona fide #2 wideout. |

Stokley is not an option ... Shanahan admited to overusing him this past season, and vowed to limit him to about 25 snaps per game in the future. Probably for the best, because he is more effective in limited slot-machine duty.
I have a wild idea for #2 WR ... because we already have a world-class #1, a budding world-class receiving TE in Scheffler, and we run the ball a whole lot, why don't we just tap Glen Martinez or another serviceable wideout who will block and has reasonably sure hands - in other words, Glen Martinez? Explain your objection in more detail, hargrove ... because we don't need an overpaid, under-utilized gamebreaker at #2. Last edited by BroncoBuff; 02-14-2008 at 03:13 PM.. |

I agree, all we need for a number 2 considering we have talent in Scheff at the TE positon a good slot receiver and a badass number 1 is a serviceable guy who can hang onto the ball and has good speed to stretch the field.

They're not going to bring in a high profile guy for the number 2 slot. Stokely will have the inside track and be competing with a rookie (or two) along with Martinez and the usual cast offs from other teams. We haven't had a solid number two (except for last before Walker went down) since Rod and Ed. It's always up for grabs in camp.

I like how people will completely dismiss Martinez, and why? Because he wasn't a high draft pick? Because, uh, let's see, he's been on the practice squad?
These same people 14 years ago would probably have said, "If that guy Rod Smith is a starting WR for this team, I'm giving up on them for the year." At least give the guy a chance to be lousy . . . . |

Hey I said it second that I'm down with using Glen as a #2. Do I think he will be a good 60 catch 700 yard receiver? Nah...but with the help of a good O line, sending Shef AND Grahm out to run routes, and letting Marshall go nuts, 100 plus again...We will be fine. Also, how about that screen game maybe.
When TO was in Philly their number 2 was Freddie Mitchell. He had all of like 20 catches. Solid running game with Big #1 WR and TE and You can do seruious damage |
