Default What Do You Guys Make Of This Kevin Hart Story?

If you haven't heard this story, read the link. I want to say something witty, but nothing comes to mind. It's just bizarre.

I was either going two ways on this topic. The serious rout in which I think this kid needs some counciling or the funny rout and laugh about this story. But I can't decide which of the two to choose but thank god for the recruits and a series of middle men they have helped me decide where to go.

It's just too bad these recruits have no idea who I am

This cracked me up...

Holy god, the guy's a half hour from our campus and we didn't even recruit him! What's this going to look like?

I didn't have time to read it, on account of all the time I've been spending with my girlfriend, Alessandra Ambrosio.

(The only thing I can think of that would clearly be a tall tale? )

From listening to the guy and the crowd they had for him and everything... I got the feeling that he was the cocky jock and lied because he probably had told everyone to impress em that he was going to these big schools and this was just the tail end of that lie. I love the fact that the lie finally caught up to him and he has to get out of bed everyday feeling about 3 inches tall. I love it.

I went back and read the story and it had more details than I'd previously read/seen on the topic and it confirmed what I suspected that this was just some chump talking big to his friends and trying to be some big shot when he wasn't... I feel no sympathy for him. Everyone's stretched the truth on one thing or another but this guy just went overboard... and capped it off with staging a ceremony rather than just say "yeah, I'm going to Cal" and leave it up to someone to find out he was a liar... what a chump.

This kid is just way ahead of the curve. Most guys lie about playing college ball 20 years later when you're talking to them in a bar somewhere.

Also, there are a lot more former Navy SEALS than you might imagine and a lot of them have surprisingly big guts.

His father needs to sit him down for a good hart to hart talk...

What a hart-wrenching tale of lies and deceit. Enough to give his family, his friends, his teachers, his coaches, his teammates, his classmates, a major Div 1 hart attack.

Good thing he's got more than one friend with a hart of gold to stand by him.

It's hart-warming to see such initiative. Like Slap said..."he way ahead of Curve. And you can take that to hart.

I feel kinda bad for the kid. He is only 17 years old and he clearly made a horrible, stupid mistake. However, I guess Portland State has picked up on the story and is asking for game film, so this stunt of his might work out. As an all state, 6'5, 290 lb lineman he should be able to find a place to play at some level of college ball.

Living the American Dream. You want something bad enough, you gotta do what ever you can to make it happen.

Kevin Hart was a nobody who wanted to play pro ball, problem is he didn't get any offers from Div I schools to play college ball.

He wasn't going to let that stop him. He stages a masterful public stunt, which rocketed his stature of a nobody to one of the most talk about prospects in all of college football.

And now Div I schools are showing interest, Portland St. has been mentioned.

The kid has dreams, can't knock him for having the balls to chase those dreams.

He's not very smart. What did he expect the end result to be? The coach invites him to camp anyways? "Here's your dorm room son"

Talk about not thinking a situation through.

What did he have to lose though? It's not like he blew any opportunities by creating that lie.

Nothing like sending your dignity down the crapper. How can you even show your face after you get shown to be a big fat liar on national TV?

Because the concept of shame no longer exists in this country. I'm waiting for FOX to offer this kid a talk show.

Prep football: Hodges might lose job over Hart hoax
CHRIS GABEL
RENO GAZETTE-JOURNAL
Posted: 2/10/2008

The fallout of the Kevin Hart recruiting fraud might be materializing, and it could cost Fernley football coach Mark Hodges his job.

Citing a policy regarding personnel matters, Lyon County School District assistant superintendent Teri White declined to comment Saturday on a report that called into question Hodges' job status.

The report, aired Friday by KRNV-TV of Reno, said the district will recommend to the Lyon County School Trustees that Hodges not have his contract renewed for next season because of unprofessional conduct and fiscal irresponsibility.

White said the district's investigation of the situation has been completed but the findings will not be announced, in accordance with the personnel policy. White said if Hodges' contract was going to be reviewed, it would take place at the trustees' regular meeting on Feb. 19, but that the actual deliberations would not be public.

Coaching contracts run year to year and a coach can be removed from his or her contract at any time.

Hodges told the RGJ on Friday afternoon he was not worried about his job status, but said he could not comment on the situation when reached Saturday.

The school district opened its investigation of the recruiting hoax on Feb. 2.

"We just want to find out how this happened," White said Thursday.

Hart admitted on Wednesday that he fabricated his recruitment by California and other top universities, an admission that came five days after he announced at a school assembly he was committing to the Golden Bears over Oregon.

KRNV also reported Friday that a Cal assistant coach sent an e-mail to Hodges three days before the announcement, stating the Berkeley university was not recruiting Hart, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive lineman and two-star prospect.

"Not at any time, at any moment in this process am I ashamed of my actions in this matter," Hodges said Wednesday, hours after Hart came clean to the con that had made national news since the commitment was first questioned almost immediately after it was made.

Since Hart's admission, there have been questions as to how the 18-year-old pulled off the hoax alone. However, Hart's statements to Lyon County sheriff's deputies indicate there was no one else involved, sheriff's Lt. Rob Hall said.

Maybe they'll make a Rudy type movie about him.
