Default Broncos' Moss recovery right on track

Jarvis Moss has given the Broncos the boot.

The team's 2007 No. 1 draft pick walked into the training room Tuesday and turned in the walking cast that he has worn for all but the past week during the last three months.

Moss also recently ditched the crutches that have been extra appendages and is able to wear normal walking shoes, something he considers a significant step since breaking his right fibula and suffering ligament damage to his ankle in a practice mishap Nov. 1.

"I'm actually pretty far along," the defensive end said of his rehabilitation to date. "I'm kind of getting it down to where I barely walk with a limp now. So I'm making progress. My ankle is as strong as the other one right now. It's just a matter of learning again how to use my ankle and foot again."

Moss is doing range-of-motion and balancing exercises to try to get his muscles firing normally.

It's Moss' expectation to begin some weight work on his legs for the first time today as part of a four- to five-day-per-week workout routine that will give him a jump over many of his teammates.

Moss could be jogging lightly in about four weeks, well before the start of the team's offseason strength and conditioning program March 24.

And if he's not fully ready for the start of that team workout program next month, Moss won't sweat it.

"If I have to ease into it, that's what I'll do. I don't want to risk anything," he said. "But already by that time, I should be 85-90 percent, so there won't be too many things in the offseason program that I'll miss on; maybe early, but two weeks in, I should be full-go in the program."

Moss also has no doubts about his preparedness for training camp since everything is healing and progressing as planned.

"I plan on being in training camp, first practice, doing everything," he said.

Just hope that he doesn't put on so much weight, that he loses his speed/explosivness.

Usually there is an indicator, something giving a hint...something. He practiced well, didn't look too bad in games (considering he was a rookie), and broke his leg, and you think he has bust written all over him. At the moment he has bust written nowhere, but it is nice of you to think so.

man please....

he had health issues in college....

he has injury issues now....

we didn't exactly have a large sample size of him to judge in college...

he didn't have too great of a rookie campaign....he gave us effort but i didn't see much for plays made....now i know rookie DL take a while to develop but i haven't seen much from him...

like i said...i hope i'm wrong but i'm skeptical that he'll pan out as the top choice in the draft (we traded up to get him by BTW)

It's not much to go off. 6 games 12 tackles 1 sack.

What we all have to consider is that Moss was a speed rusher. How will this injury effect that speed?

Can he recover that burst and get to the QB?

Not trying to roast you here or anything, but lots of people keep bringing this up and it's wrong. His "health issue" in college was a freak staph infection he got from a cortisone shot in high school, that's it! That doesn't make him injury prone.

STFU
Its nonsense. I bet if Moss comes back healthy, and tears it up notching 10+ sacks, you will still say something about it.
And a quality 3rd round pick? Jacksonville took a WR by the name of Mike Walker with that 3rd round pick. None of the picks after that are really worth mentioning, none of them did a whole lot for their teams. So don't post that BS giving up a quality 3rd round pick.
We had our 3 target guys, 2 of them already taken, and we had to move up to get our guy. Why risk losing your 3rd primary target?

I have a feeling that we will be pleasantly surprised by last year's draft class. Crowder, Thomas, and Moss will all be players, give them another year to put on some weight. Add Dumervil to that group and I like the future of the D-line. This year's draft will include a MLB, DT, OT, and S, bank on it. this team is not far away, just needs more talented young bodies on the lines to rotate in, a kickass MLB, another safety to train alongside Abdullah, and some seasoning on the offensive side of the ball.

i never said he was an injury problem in college...

i said he had health issues...which is indeed correct...doesn't matter if its freakish or not...its a concern

understand something....i hope the guy recovers and does well....

but at this point i'm skeptical...thats all i'm saying....

Don't worry too much bro, I've had 2 staph infections before and once they are cured it should never be an issue again, and a broken leg is about as freak of an injury as you can have.

I think Jarvis will be OK.

No, it's not a concern, because it was a freak staph infection. You don't get those from being an "injury problem" nor do you break a leg because of that.
