With the 41th selection in the NFL draft The Bills take....

Jerod Mayo is an excellent tackler and a hard hitter, seemingly in on every play. In fact, probably the hardest hitter I've seen on Vol defense since Al Wilson. He was a leader on defense all year.

He was part of a defense that held Knowshon Moreno and the Georgia offense to under 70 yards rushing. In the SEC Championship Game, one of the hardest hitting games I've seen in a few years, Mayo was the leading tackler. He doesn't just hit, he pops. He followed that up with another stellar performance in the Outback Bowl, another hard hitting game by the Vol defense. The guy has a nose for the ball and wraps up!

As for the padding numbers, I haven't heard of that. The secondary was so bad on the road which may account for lower tackle numbers for the d-line. QBs abused the Vol secondary away from Knoxville especially in the UF and Bama games.

This pick was made 6:30 PT

With the 44th pick in this years draft, the Chicago Bears select Jamaal Charles. Running back. Texas.

With Williams in the fold we feel we should be in good shape at left tackle for years to come. Now, with that taken care of, we feel like our offense would benefit tremendously from getting a player in the backfield who offers explosiveness. We feel Jamaal Charles can be that player. Additionally, we feel he can put on 10 lbs without sacrificing much if any speed and that his past problems with fumbles is something that can be corrected.

We also considered Felix Jones and Chris Johnson but felt that when looking at the balance of the season, we felt Charles provided us the higher level of assurance and in particular with what he was able to do in the second half of the season.

Playing in the NFC North, it has become clear that the teams on the rise in our division have good running games that can also provide big plays. You saw that with Minnesota and with Green Bay.

With the 42nd pick the Buffalo Bills select Dre Moore DT out of Maryland

Height: 6-4 | Weight: 305 | 40-Time: 4.86

Strengths:
Terrific size with a big frame...Excellent strength...Great speed and quickness with a burst to close...Plays with a nasty demeanor...Has good range and makes plays in pursuit...Can penetrate and wreak havoc in the backfield...Has the potential to be stout at the point of attack...Could play in multiple schemes...Has some upside.

Weaknesses:
Still pretty raw...Lackluster instincts and awareness...Inconsistent leverage...Does not use his hands well...Pass rush repertoire is limited...He doesn't play up to his weight room numbers..His work ethic and motor have been brought into question.

Notes:
First name is actually Marchondray...He played just one year of varsity football in high school..Could project to either a 4-3 or 3-4 scheme...Has everything you look for physically but just has not been able to put it all together yet, although he did have his best year as a senior...A "Workout Warrior" who will probably be chosen earlier than his film would otherwise indicate...Quite possibly a boom or bust type.

With the 47th Pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, The San Francisco 49ers select:

Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC

Strengths:
Has good size and bulk with long arms...Was super productive...Is quick and plays faster than he times...Strong and powerful...Stout and the point of attack and he holds his ground against the run...Instinctive...Technically sound...Uses his hands well...Offers some versatility...Has a ton of experience versus premier competition.

Weaknesses:
Very inconsistent...Does not have very good timed speed...He's not real explosive and lacks a burst...Repertoire of pass rush moves is unimpressive...Motor runs hot and cold...Won't scare anyone off the edge...Has some health/durability concerns.

Notes:
His brother, Keith, was an offensive tackle at Arizona...Was a four-year starter in the Pac-10...Has been bothered by ankle injuries throughout college...A solid but unspectacular base end with a nice, well-rounded game..He may never be an elite pass rusher in the pros but can be an adequate starter...Is not quite the prospect his press clippings would lead you to believe and might be a little overrated...Will play for a long time and could enjoy a pro career similar to that of Kenechi Udeze

I think Jackson will work well as an end in San Fran's 3-4 scheme. the film I saw on him showed that he could really get a push on the guards and tackles and was good at holding his ground on running plays. He will start opposite the recently acquired Justin Smith with their new resigned NT holding the middle. This will allow Lawson and Willis to do their thing and make some plays as well.

Pick is in at 10:22 CST. Arkansas Bronco is on the clock.

With the 49th pick in the OM Mock draft the Philadelphia Eagles select:

Curtis Lofton, LB, Oklahoma

Great bulk and a solid frame...Excellent instincts and awareness...Has a non-stop motor...Quick and plays faster than he times..Does a terrific job in pursuit and has a burst to close...Big hitter and reliable tackler..Able to step up and fill against the run...Does a decent job in zone coverage...Smart with a high football I.Q....Tough and strong...Hard worker and team leader with top-notch intangibles...Productive.
Could play in either a 43 or a 34 defensive scheme...Contributed mainly on special teams as a true freshman..Began to emerge as a sophomore but really burst onto the scene as a junior in 2007 when he was named an All-American and the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year...Might not have all the physical tools you look for but is just a football player..The type who won't be a 1st rounder but will play like one.

This pick was made at 6:56 EST.

The Miami Dolphins select... Philip Wheeler ILB Georgia Tech

Strengths:
A great athlete...Excellent timed speed...Good quickness with a burst to close...A very good pass rusher and blitzer...Has sideline-to-sideline range...Big hitter and solid tackler...Terrific instincts...Extremely active...Does okay when dropping into a zone...Smart...Good leader...Versatile...Real productive...Durable and experienced.

Weaknesses:
Undersized and doesn't have the size or bulk that you look for...Too aggressive at times...Has some trouble getting off blocks...Not stout at the point...Questionable man coverage skills...Lacks fluid hips...Displays poor hand use...Must get stronger.

Notes:
A three-year starter in the ACC...Began his career as a defensive end...Played the middle in college but many are projecting him to the weakside at the next level...A talented playmaking linebacker with solid physical tools and a well-rounded game

Pick made @ 10:23 mountain time.

Weaknesses:
Plays out of control at times...Not a natural knee bender...Struggles in space...He doesn't have a great hand punch...Is not a great cut blocker...Doesn't always play up to his physical tools...Only two years as a starter....Has some durability issues.

Notes:
Redshirted as a true freshman...Worked as a backup in 2005 before stepping into the starting lineup..Had arthroscopic surgery to remove torn cartilage from his left knee in 2004 and missed three games with a knee injury in 2007...Came out after his junior season due in large part to a family medical problem..A talented physical specimen who is still improving....Should be a starter pretty early in his pro career

Official Bio

Strengths:
Good size and a big frame...Strong and tough...Physical and aggressive...Stout at the point of attack...Gets a great push in the run game...Pretty good mobility and can get to the second level...Will engulf and dominate opponents..Real smart with great awareness...Durable and has a ton of experience...Hard worker and leader.

Notes:
Last name is pronounced "shoe-ning"...Was a four-year starter in the Pac-10...It may not always be pretty but you can't argue with the results and this guy has a well-rounded game...Closer to Logan Mankins than Ben Grubbs...A coaches dream who might never be a star but should start early and enjoy a nice long pro career.
