Default LT has sprained MCL and Rivers has to have surgery

Whatever the speculation was on TV or the lie the Chargers announced to the media at Gillette Stadium, here's the bottom line from LaDainian Tomlinson:

"It's obvious that I couldn't play. If I could have played, I would have been in there.''

Tomlinson, who suffered a hyperextended left knee in last week's win over Indianapolis, got hit on the same knee on the first play of the AFC Championship Game and said he sprained the medial collateral ligament. The Chargers announced he could have returned to the game, but Tomlinson said that wasn't the case. Coach Norv Turner confirmed that after the game.

"It was just the impact of getting hit that first play, right on it,'' Tomlinson said. "I thought that would be the test, taking a hit on it. I don't know how I get direct hits on it ... it's just been two bad weeks for me. I usually don't take shots like that. It just happened.''

Tomlinson was in for a total of four plays -- two carries, a reception and one play where he stayed into block. He did not play after the Chargers' second series.

"LT tried to go and he just couldn't go,'' Turner said. "The pain in the knee, what he felt, he couldn't push off it and he couldn't go. ... The doctors and trainers said he couldn't go.''

Meanwhile, QB Philip Rivers confirmed he has a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in addition to a sprained MCL. Rivers said he "probably'' would need surgery.

Slow injury-prone Rivers is about to get slower and more injury-prone. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

I can't believe I am going to say this. But for all the Rivers hate playing on a partially torn knee was pretty balsy. Most of us would be crying and hobbling around!

And yet, they STILL gave the Patriots a game. Denver will have to seriously improve in talent if we are to beat the Chargers next year...

yeah, we probably would.

of course we probably wouldn't get a pain killer shot in the ass so that we wouldn't actually have to feel the pain.

Two words....Cortisone Shot! (maybe some pain killers, too)

Actually, I agree..pretty balsy because he easily could have made one wrong step and ended his career. Or, was it balsy? Maybe selfish? Maybe he just figured the team couldn't do anything without him?

Look at it this way. If Denver was in the AFC Championship game, wouldn't you want Cutler playing (even if he was playing hurt)? I probably would...

If Denver had a backup that was better than Cutler (a la Volek/Rivers), hell no I wouldn't want him playing.

... Taking this into account why aren't more people talking about the b**** job LT pulled off. In both the last 2 games the dolts PR staff told the press that LT was able to return. Yet bot games he sat on the sidelines l;ooking like Ricky Williams while his team fell short. Any other player in the league would be under intense srutiny for such an act...

It had to be humiliating to watch Philip Rivers man up while LT hid under his helmet.

On my way to Home Depot I flipped over to Jim Rome. Many SD fans are calling in calling LT out. I thought LT had pretty much reached that untouchable status with his fans but they aren't happy he was sitting there.

I'm glad this is getting some attention. The pathetic sight of him on the sidelines with the helmet and visor on was just amazing to watch. Add to that the chargers PR guys kept saying that he was cleared to play but this was a "coaching decision"... Yeah, sure it was.

Yeah they are calling him Darth Vader on the radio. That and there are many Vizio refrences being thrown around. Most of those are not SD fans though. The ones who are SD fans are saying anything from why did he practice all week to why wasn't he at least jumping around on the sidelines and showing support.

They are saying he sprained it on the first play though so not sure what you can say about him.

just to argue the other side of the coin a bit: LT has given a lot to that franchise over his career so far, he was carrying that team for several seasons and never once complained. There is a reason that he has had a glimmering repuation up until the past 2 seasons, it was becasue he was amoong the classier players in the league. He's torn up the league for 7 years now and this is really the first time he was knocked out injury wise, and it was also the most important game of the season. Can you imagine how frustrating that would be? Think about how hlf this board reacts to a bad game by the Broncos in the regular season. Now imagine you were a player on that team, felt you couldn't contribute, and in the back of your mind you knew that your career will be winding down in the next few seasons.

From the looks of it he chose not to contribute... Olandis Gary played a half of a meaningless game on a blown ACL. This looks to me like he completely folded

LT hasnt been toiling away alone, and certainly hasnt been left short of recognition in the process.

It's time for him to feel the same pressure that everyone else has to.

LT punked out in the biggest game of his career and left the fate of his franchise in the hands of Burner Turner and the much tougher Philip Rivers (how sad is that?).

You get paid the big bucks to show up in those games, not to win fantasy football leagues and bow out early in the playoffs every year.

If he truely Folded, I agree, weak sauce. I've just heard so many contradictory reports from the game. Sideline reporters saying LT was okay, then hearing coaching decisions, and even reports that the medical staff said he shouldn't play. Without a real grasp on the true story, I think it might be a little unnecessary to call out a guy has has been the model face of a franchise for almost a decade.

It does seem like LT is getting increasingly unhappy with his situation in SD though. If I remember correctly he was vocal about wanting Brees to stay, then they shipped him out, and he also was supporting Shottenheimer when he got the axe. I blame Rivers, I wouldn't want to take orders from that guy either.

Sprained MCL isn't much to worry about is it?

I need LT for my fantasy team next year.

Yea, i dont understand it. Maybe LT doesnt have the "competitive fire" that Rivers has.

Chargers were able to still compete because they have an elite line...any pro QB who gets TIME, will be able to move the ball.

Mark Schlereth was on the radio this morning and said that RB is a position where the knee has to be close to 100% to be effective. He then told a quote from TD "We are called running backs, not hobbling backs"
