The same reasons the police drive mid-priced passenger cars instead of BMWs.

Windows machines are cheap. Hence, they're used by big business. Corporations don't need to give their secretaries BMWs. They just need something that runs. (Ironic, as they so often don't.)

So, schools and businesses got them cheap through the 90s. Most people learned on them, so most people stick with what they know. Talk to anyone with real world experience on both, and you'll rarely find anyone who chooses to work in the Windows environment on their own accord. But, the OS is a little different, many haven't used it... so people continue to buy what they know. Those who have used it never go back. I'll guarantee you that much.

Ford has more marketshare than Lexus. Lexus absolutely destroys Ford in any measurable quality category and always has. Ford still sells more cars in the U.S..

Better and more expensive products rarely lead in overall sales. Your average person is always much more likely to roll the dice on a cheaper model, regardless of what it is... and that's fine. Nothing wrong with rolling the dice on a bargain. Just don't mistake that for an indication of quality.

It won't happen. Two reasons.
1. Mac will always have a smaller market share, and trust me.. that's fine with most Mac-users. As a business owner, I'm absolutely thrilled that any of my competition would run their businesses on Windows machines. It's like the Chiefs hiring Herm Edwards. Gotta love it.

2. The products are not equal. All you have to do is look at honest, unbiased research to know that. So, that's simply a false premise.

All OS's have holes. The differences are this...
1. OSX Leopard rates out higher than Vista in every major category by nearly anyone who's reviewed them both. (Again, unbiased sources.)
2. Security breeches will happen. But, when 99.9% of viruses are targeting Windows apps, I think common sense should tell you which one is more vulnerable.

I have no love for windows, I have a few programs I use windows for but linux is my main O/S. If there were anywhere near the same number of users between the available O/S's, spyware and the various malware would be an equal pain in the a** for all users. And no im not in IT, but I do know and have some experience with hardware and Macs are well made, but for the price I would take a thinkpad or an Asus. for the price of a Macbook pro you can get a toughbook. It's alll in personal taste. For me PC hardware and Linux O/S.

Funny, you go on a Linux rant later in this thread.

I have used many ****ty linux drivers over the years. Linux "flavors" are more friendly to to certain hardware configs. It is really no different then Mac drivers.

I had this one video card on a linux box - and i swear unless i could write the damned driver i couldn't get it to work.

I'm not a huge fan of MS - but for creating a "one sized fits all" OS - with the amount of hardware they support - I find XP to be a good OS. Vista sucks balls though.

Look, you're right - I should have stayed out of it. You caught me at an acerbic moment.

That said, it does seem like this place has done nothing but make you unhappy of late. I'm not saying it to be a smartass. I just think life is too short to stick around if something brings you more negative than positive. It should be recreation - not work.
