from fatlock:

7. Ron Burgundy has every reason to be upset with the hypocritical Chargers, because LaDainian Tomlinson's squad sure forgot to "stay classy, San Diego" against the Broncos.

Led by quarterback Phillip Rivers, the Chargers were caught on tape taunting and trash-talking Denver quarterback Jay Cutler in the fourth quarter of San Diego's victory.

Rivers, of course, has no business talking (spit) to anyone. He's the main reason — besides Norv Turner — the Chargers are not a legitimate Super Bowl threat. But Mike Florio over at the wonderful profootballtalk.com raises a more interesting question. Florio claims the "real" media have too much man love for L.T. to call out the Chargers for behaving in the same fashion as the Patriots, the team L.T. complained had no class following New England's playoff victory in San Diego last season.

Remember, L.T. took offense when a couple of Pats celebrated by doing Shawne Merriman's "Lights Out" dance at the 50.

Well, I'm definitely in the tank for Tomlinson. He epitomizes class and professionalism, to me. However, I must admit I've wondered why L.T. added a dash of mustard to his end-zone routine this season. You know, he puts one hand behind his head and flips the ball to the side with the other hand after each touchdown.

As best I can remember, L.T. had always been an "act like you've been there before" kind of runner. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought he used to flip the ball to the refs, hug a teammate or two and jog to the sideline. The mustard came after his latest TV commercial. It's been disappointing.

We're not the only ones who see Rivers as the weakest link.
I'm sure most realistic Bolt fans, who understand what they're watching, see the same problem.

Bingo. After the Patriot fiasco there were tons of Charger fans crying about how it was so classless by the Patriots to do that when the game was over. Yet, in a 20 point blowout to the Broncos it seems it is ok for the Dolts to behave in the same manner. Like i said, they are Hypocrites. Act like you been there before.

Well he's not Tom Brady or Payton Manning, but what do you want the Chargers to do? If there were Tom Bradys and Payton Mannings in every draft and every free agency class, then maybe the Chargers would grab one.

It's folly to think the Chargers couldn't have a better quarterback, though.

I'm not sure abut the specifics of the draft day trade, but it was a mistake if the Chargers preference was Rivers over Rothlisberger. And after making that mistake, they made another one two years later by chosing Rivers over Brees.

Rothlisberger is doing better this year, but Rivers was heads and tails better than him last year. Who knows what will happen in the future? Rivers is also WAY ahead of where Brees was during his 2nd season starting. I don't want to get this circlejerk debate going again just when it was starting to die down, but I'm pretty satisfied with where Rivers is in his development. It puts the Chargers at a disadvantage against teams like Indy and NE because their quarterbacks are all-time greats and are also fully developed, but I like Rivers. One of his problems is that he played so well last year, getting voted into the probowl and stuff, that people overlook the fact that he's a 2nd year starter.

This was a cool article in the SDUT that sort of put Rivers' development into perspective:

http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports...16chchart.html

November 16, 2007
How Philip Rivers compares with a few of the all-time greats through 25 regular-season starts:
Quarterback Com-Att Pct Yards TD Int Rat W-L
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Philip Rivers 439-715 61.4 5,131 32 19 87.0 19-6
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Joe Montana 476-756 63.0 5,141 31 19 86.1 15-10
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brett Favre 520-819 63.5 5,386 31 30 79.7 15-10
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Peyton Manning 512-886 57.8 6,258 43 38 78.0 10-15
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tom Brady 541-837 64.6 5,680 42 22 90.0 17-8

Jumping on Rivers for having a poor game is pretty much the same thing as jumping on Cutler when he sucks it up (which none of you do, I've noticed.) You have to expect poor games to happen with young quarterbacks, because it has happened with every single young quarterback to come into the league. It's a fact of life in the NFL. Also, Phillip has a LOT more pressure on him than Cutler does simply because Phillip's team has Superbowl quality talent and is expected to compete for the Superbowl. Is Rivers our weakest link? Ya, probably. It's not his fault, though. If he was a 4 or 5 year starter, then I would want something done about it. The fact of the matter, however, is that Rivers is a relative toddler in this league with HUGE pressure on him to perform at a level higher than what is expected of most 2nd year starters. If your god-like goldenboy QB was on the Chargers, he would be the weakest link as well.

Joe Montana-SB
Brett Favre-SB
Peyton Manning-SB
Tom Brady-SB
Philip Rivers-Inbred Whale Vagina, no SB, no talent, no class hack.

And honestly, every other QB on that list could walk out on the fifty and run his yap and know they have the skills to back it up but they didn't and they don't. Rivers on the other hand succeeds on the efforts of LT and his OL. Without LT's running game Rivers quickly becomes Marinovich.

Not true. He's always done that. Even Frank Gore of the 49ers (who loves LT) has done it in homage to him.

It's supposed to be a tea pot being poured out, in reference to the crowd noise at hostile stadiums all of a sudden getting quiet when he scores a TD
