FALCONS SNIFFING AROUND SHANAHAN?
Posted by Mike Florio on December 27, 2007 5:09 pm

A league source tells us that the Atlanta Falcons are exploring the possibility of pursuing Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan.

As the rumor/scuttlebutt goes, Shanahan would run the show in Atlanta, as the head coach and de facto G.M.

Though he’s still under contract with the Broncos, the thinking is that owner Pat Bowlen might be happy to let him leave, given the struggles of the team in 2007.

Another name that has emerged in Atlanta is Chiefs V.P. of player personnel Bill Kuharich. It’s possible that both Shanahan and Kuharich could join the Falcons, with Kuharich serving as the G.M. but Shanahan calling the shots.

Ridiculous, Shanny cannot be in a better situation and it would look like he quit.

I believe that it might look attractive to him to go to a college team or to a decent NFL team. I don't believe for a minute that he would want to take over that team.

I don't know. I've read that he likes it here, in part because of Jay Cutler's potential. He'd have a similar situation in Atlanta with Joey Harrington.

Shanahan is always looking for more work. Why doesn't he coach and gm both.

Default Shanny is trying to leverage a raise.....

while using one of his enemies, Mike Florio, in the process. Shanny will send you a Christmas card if this works, Florio

Guilty as charged on Bailey but, I'll gladly admit I'm wrong in 5 yrs be interesting to see how many playoff games we win in that time. I just hope we don't waste his talents here by underachieving team.

I can see how that would be a very attractive situation for Shanahan.

Go to a 3-13 team whose franchise qb just went to prison, whose headcoach walked out before the season was up pissing off the players and fans, and get to live and coach in a city that was nearly wiped off the map by a hurricane just two years ago. Who wouldn't be interested?

I agree, when Shanahan is done coaching I expect he see himself as this franchise's Bill Walsh, but in active role. He will always be part of the team as long as Bowlen owns the team

Why would Shanny leave a place where the Owner and 70% of fans don't care what he does. I'm pretty sure Atlanta would hold him accountable.

Anyone who believes Shanahan will leave the Broncos with a QB like Jay Cutler who he hand picked and who can make great things for him is... well, crazy.
