Default Pats/Giants To Be Simulcast On NBC & CBS

Which station will YOU watch?

Pats-Giants to be first three-network simulcast game in NFL history
Associated Press
Updated: December 26, 2007, 5:23 PM ET

NEW YORK -- The New England Patriots' shot at history Saturday night will be available for every household in the country with a television after months of wrangling.

The game against the New York Giants, in which the Patriots could become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in the regular season, was originally scheduled to be shown only on the NFL Network, which is available in fewer than 40 percent of the nation's homes with TVs.

The league announced Wednesday that the NFL Network feed will be simulcast on NBC and CBS. It's a major concession by league officials, who repeatedly said they would not show the game anywhere but the NFL Network. The NFL had faced mounting pressure from lawmakers in recent weeks to make the game available to more viewers.

Local TV affiliates in the Boston, Manchester, N.H., and New York areas who were already set to simulcast the game under NFL policy will still air it.

The NFL has feuded with major cable companies, who have declined to carry the network as part of basic packages.

"We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans," commissioner Roger Goodell said. "What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever."

This will be the first three-network simulcast in NFL history and the first simulcast of any kind of an NFL game since the first Super Bowl in 1967, when CBS and NBC both televised the first meeting of the champions of the newly merged National Football League and American Football League.

I'll watch. I might even root for them to win it all. The Pats are a very, very good team. Great, even. What they are doing is incredible. As a football fan I don't want to miss it.

Only 3 networks broadcasting simultaneously?

The hoodie won't stand for the Pats being disrespected like that.

The Giants suck and have nothing to gain by winning. I sure am glad they decided to simulcast this game and not Dallas/GB earlier.

Aside from all this, whose side are we on in the NFL vs TimeWarner war?

I've always just thought the NFL was right because NFL Network is Bowlen's creation, but if you think about it, should any cable channel be permitted to dictate to carriers? Obviously they don't have to, but is this suicide for NFL Network?

Karnac says "Name 3 stations I won't be watching on Saturday night." I have the NFLN (thanks Dish) and wasn't going to watch anyways. I'm ignoring everything about the Patriots this year. Cheaters, and the NFL enabled them by destroying the evidence quickly and without review.

Go Time Warner.

I thought I was going to be spared the weekly cramming of the Patriots down my throat, but nnnnnnooooooooo.

For the record, I could care less about the Patriots going undefeated, it does absolutely nothing for me....my reaction to it will be no more than a shrug.

Q:Will I watch this impending boring blowout against the Giants, arguably the most boring team in NFL history?

A:Only if I can't find a good NHL game on somewhere.

Good stuff Hogan. I actually hope the Pats WIN this week, and then lose to Cleveland at home in Round 1. Man, that would make my year.

in a later press release, the NFL also announced that any official throwing a flag against the Pats will be summarily executed. also, on the off chance that the Giants do beat the Pats, the NFL has announced a new "Do-Over" rule, allowing the game to be replayed in NE on the following Tuesday, which will be broadcast on all channels everywhere.

I've already heard some static about my position on this whole thing..."How can you not want to watch NFL history in the making?" Hey, I missed Brett Farve breaking all those records too and it didn't diminish my NFL fan-life one iota......because I simply don't care.

This actually makes me mad. I pay for the Sunday Ticket and the NFL Network, to get these games, they have my money. I want a refund of some kind. I know, you guys here will say tough, but to watch the Broncos outside of market, I need the Directv dish. If they "provide" this game, then all of them should be provided if not on a Sunday regular time slot, it is a form of reverse discrimination. OKAY, I will get off of my high horse... But just because congress is stronger in Boston than the rest of the country, the "normal American" again takes it in the shorts. Anyone on the site a Lawyer and wants to start a lawsuit.. I know, it would never work, but that is my thoughts for now.

I agree. A lot of people, including myself, paid the 5 bucks to watch the 8 games NFL Network broadcast (even though the Broncos/Texans game would be on free TV for us in Denver). It's not about the money, 5 bucks for a month isn't a drop in the bucket, but the principle. Why show this game for free to the nation when Cowboys/Packers was the real draw?

Overall I see the point you're making, but the part I bolded, this issue has nothing to do with Boston. Everybody in Boston and New York got the game locally before this decision was made.

I agree with you to an extent. As long as it's not the Raiders, Cowboys, Chiefs, Chargers, or anyone with coach Belicheat, I'd be anxious to watch it too. I remember when Miami did it, it was pretty incredible then. I was not a Miami fan but I enjoyed watching them pull it off. Not this current coach, er team, I probably won't be watching as I find the networks simulcast as arrogant as that coach.

That would be a fun scenario, but as the #1 seed in the AFC, the Pats have a bye for Round 1. Cleveland or Tennessee... and Jacksonville will be headed to SD or Pittsburgh.

AGREE with you wholeheartedly. I could care less about Bellicheat and Wussboy Brady. History? Tainted history, cheaters are what they are, cheaters. They don't deserve any of my time at all. I cannot believe the way the press just fawns all over the collection of egomaniacs in NE...dman

*Coughlin will sit his starters I'm guessing. Won't be a contest, why bother...

I am at peace with the Patsy's winning it all.

Belly is a student of the game and should go down with Lombardi as one of the great HC's.

Plus it will shut up Shula and the 72 fins.

For me it is win win, Shut up 72 fins or choke in Playoffs I will take one of those 2.

Congress threatens the NFL with revisting antitrust laws and the NFL says the rest of America deserves this game.................... uh right.
