The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 12/19/07 After reaching an agreement to become executive vice president of the Falcons a day earlier, Bill Parcells backed out of the deal Wednesday, according to team owner Arthur Blank. Team owner Arthur Blank issued the following statement: "Late last night it was revealed to the media by a source outside the Falcons that we were close to reaching an agreement with Bill Parcells to lead the club's football operations. Prior to the information becoming public, we had reached an agreement in principle with Parcells, and we met with him this morning to complete the contract. At that time, we were made aware by Parcells that he was considering a revised offer from the Miami Dolphins. He later informed us that he would not be signing a contract with us. We remain committed to looking at every option for building a championship-caliber team for our fans. I have stated we will leave no stone unturned in doing so, and this effort is one example of that. We gave it our best shot, and it didn't work out. We will continue down the same overall path, proceeding with plans to hire a general manager and a head coach. We will identify and consider every strongly viable candidate for these positions, with the goal of hiring the best. Rich McKay remains President of the club and will retain general manager responsibilities until a new GM is hired. We will be making no further comment on the Parcells matter." ------------- Parcells to Miami. |

Bill Parcells is considering on offer from the Dolphins to head the team's football operations.
Although published and Internet reports say Parcells was ready to take an offer from the Atlanta Falcons to become their vice president in charge of football operations -- a job that would grant him the power to hire a general manager and head coach -- Parcells backed out of that offer Wednesday. Parcells is now weighing a similar offer from Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga. ''Prior to the information becoming public, we reached agreement in principle with Bill,'' Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank said in a statement. ``We met this morning to complete the contract. At that time we were made aware that he is considering a revised offer from the Miami Dolphins. ``He later informed us he would not be signing a contract with us.'' One source with knowledge of the situation is telling The Herald Parcells' agent, Jimmy Sexton, is negotiating with the Dolphins. The source would not say how close Parcells might be to joining the Dolphins, if at all. |

Bill Parcells is negotiating the final details of a contract that would bring him to the Dolphins to head the team's football operations.
The negotiations have been ongoing between Parcells' agent Jimmy Sexton and Miami owner Wayne Huizenga. Although published and Internet reports early Wednesday said Parcells was ready to take an offer from the Atlanta Falcons to become their vice president in charge of football operations -- a job that would grant him the power to hire a general manager and head coach -- Parcells backed out of that offer today. Parcells, 66, is now entering the final stages of talks with the Dolphins, according to multiple sources. The Dolphins officially declined to comment. ''Prior to the information [becoming] public, we reached agreement in principle with Bill,'' Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank said in a statement. ``We met this morning to complete the contract. At that time we were made aware that he is considering a revised offer from the Miami Dolphins. ``He later informed us he would not be signing a contract with us.'' An ESPN report stating Parcells had backed out of the deal with Atlanta and was talking to the Dolphins flashed across the multiple plasma TV screens in the Miami locker room while players were between practice and meetings. ''We're going to have a new daddy,'' offensive tackle L.J. Shelton joked. Defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday sees the possibility of adding Parcells as a good thing. ''We talk a lot throughout this league and Bill Parcells is one of those names that if he comes in and he's on board, he's a guy that's going to get things going in the right direction,'' Holliday said. ``He's the Big Tuna.'' |

As much as I think telluride is a douche, I wouldn't mind Parcells in Denver.

Miami wins the right to pay him a lot of money to stick around for a few years and split.

Didn't he do the same thing to Tampa just before they went out and traded for Gruden? It was for caoch insted of VP, but he backed out at the last minute just the same. He seems to be a strong negotiator.
