I remember people being thrilled when he got into the lineup. He played well in replace of Ferguson is what i heard.
However, was he really playing that well? Is he really a starting safety in the league? Or just another average roster filler space? |

I think he is worth keeping around and giving another shot. Lynch might retire and theres a dearth of safeties in the draft this year. I think he reads plays better than Ferguson and Ferguson was a starter for a while. I say we give him another year and look at replacing him next year if necessary.

I sort've agree with meck77....that play against houston was arguably the poorest effort i've ever seen defensively on a play at ANY level....i have a tough time gettin past it... with that said though...maybe we do give the guy a shot... dude i don't know... |

He played pretty well early on, but his last game was terrible.
That tackle he missed was unreal, its like he wasn't even trying. |

don't let the lack of pro-bowlers from JAX fool you. they've got talent at the skill positions (wr excluded) and their defense is talent laden all over the place. abdullah's a backup on most teams, IMO.

I give Hamza this year to learn the ropes. He's had some good and bad plays.
Next year he really needs to step up with Champ and Bly playing corner. |

it's so hard to judge safeties plays because lots of times we never see them because the ball is being followed. But ugh, that whiff in the houston game was pathetic

We better hope he steps up, because we don't have squat at the safety possition. I love Lynch, but the dude is slow and old, so If Hamza doesn't work out we are in need of two.

I like the way he plays, and think he has shown enough to go into the offseason as the starter.

I'm biased because I just love the kid, but I think most of you are covering up many games worth of great play with one, and I'll admit this, horrible, horrible play.
Hamza is something we haven't had around these here parts in awhile: A safety that makes plays in the passing game. The kid is everywhere on the field and has great closing speed, and is usually an awesome tackler, sans the Houston game. |

I'm going to be completely honest here.....I've only "noticed" Abdullah perhaps three or four times all season long. People keep making blanket statements about him being around the ball all the time, being a great tackler, or having ridiculous closing speed, etc. (I used to read the same things about Ferguson, and I never got it then). I wonder how much of this is reality, and how much of it is either based off of others here saying it or based off of the few plays where he actually got tv time....particularly the impressive pass breakup he had along the sidelines a few weeks ago.
Like "Son" said above, at least 90% of the plays, he never appears on the screen. He is not consistently moved around the LOS like Lynch, where we can clearly follow him on just about every play. Do we REALLY know how good of a safety he really is? Or are we just guessing based off of a few plays? |

I've been calling him a scrub from the day he first hit the field. Anyone who thinks this player is a starting calibar safety is delusional. He doesn't make big hits on a regular basis or cause many fumbles with big hits. He doesn't bail out CB who get burned by making a great play or tackle very well in the run game.
He's a bkup player IMO. |

Abdullah is a good SS but a great FS.....he hits hard but I think that he has great rooming ability. I remember one play where a CB got burned and he ran from the far hash to tip the ball out of the receivers hands.....we need to let him play center field...

I think Hamza just needs a little more experience, but he is starter material. People who haven't noticed him, haven't been watching our d-backs. He has come on very strong this season, and I expect he will have more to prove by next training camp. Also, you can't beat the price tag! Honestly, bring someone else in via the draft, but it will probably take the new guy a year or two to unseat Hamza. Another thought. I would rather see a true safety at Foxworth's spot than Hamza's. Foxworth is the one who is a great football player, but always about 10% less than what you really need. He's about 90% of the corner we need, and about 90% of the safety we need. He's great for depth, but I don't have much confidence in him lately. Hasn't has a true "stand out" game since last year when he first came in at safety and got like 10 tackles. Get 2 good DT's and Hamza will look even better, as will DJ, Champ, Dre, etc.. |

My gut reaction is to say he's a decent player but not spectacular, and will probably remain so. But, he's a big strong kid with good closing speed, and only 24 years old. So maybe he has some upside if he gets coached up properly.
