Default IF REX Ryan gets the axe along with Billick at the end of this season

How many would be in favor of aquiring him and his diverse blitzing scheme? I for one would. His defenses have ranked in the top five in 2006 and 2005 ---they make the offenses adjust to them---with our secondary being on par with B-mores with the exception of Ed Reed---we could get away with the that blitzing format--obviously we don't have a MLB of Ray-Ray's caliber (even though he has declined) --but we could use Jarvis Moss like Terrell Suggs and use DJ much as they use Bart Scott. I have been amazed at what the Ravens are able to do with that defense year in and year out and I certainly would like to see a return of the attacking(if smallish) defense that we had in the late 80s and 90's-----just some food for thought

While I love the Ryan boys schemes, we do not have the front seven to blitz like they do. We have NO Kelly Gregg, Ngata, Suggs, Scott, Lewis type players that can play multiple positions along the front seven and make it work.

That is NOT an easy scheme to learn either and it takes a lot of discipline from the front seven, something this team does not have either. IMHO one of the Ryan brothers WILL get a HC job soon and I could see it being Rex if Billick Stays after this year.

Billick and the staff got a vote of confidence yesterday(before the game) from the new owner. The owner stated that Billick would be back next year.

hey Med, What's your take on why the Raider's D has taken a few steps back this year? Last year, they were the lone bright spot on an otherwise dismal showing by the Faid, but this year they seem mediocre at best. What gives? Is it simply the addition of Gerardo that brings them down?

Funny how so many are quick to show Bates the door.... and continue to give Shanny a free lifetime pass

You're right. That is puzzling. Shanahan is trash. Worst coach ever. I'm surprised he's ever won a game at any point ever.

Didn't you know? Elway and Davis won those SBs...Shanny was just there for the ride (whatever coaching needed was handled by Kubiak).

Great, another wanting a coaching change without the players to run his scheme either. Let's get players to run Bates' defense first and see what we can do before we blow up the defense yet again. Otherwise we'll be sitting here next year at this time with about 734763282 threads calling for us to fire Ryan.

We don't have the right players for Bates' defense.

We don't have the players to switch to a 3-4

We can't run Baltimores attacking 4-3

I'm curious, is there a defense that Denver DOES have the players to run?

Billick got an extension early last week.

No, not even close. Denver D might be able to stop a D-1AA team.

Yes, but that defense is going to be flawed somewhere trying to cover up for a horendous front four. Just watch them play against any good OL teams. You can not be successful in ANY scheme fielding trash on the front four.

The NFL has made it harder and harder to play defense and if you do not have a DL capable of playing and winning one on one matchups, the best thing you can do is tweak it to play to their limited strengths. It will crumble over time after the tweaks are revealed and the defense will be exposed.

The better question is what CAN you do with this DL, and the answer is PRAY

For god sakes stop with the talk of firing Bates. Everyone is screaming like this year is his fault and it isn't. You think a guy that has had top defense's every single place he has gone just forgot how to coach, I mean seriously. The problem is that we do not have the right guys to run the scheme, that is going to take a year or two to get. Why do you think our D is terrible, because we switch coordinators like most people switch underwear. If you fire Bates then that just mean another guy with a different system will come in and then we will have to get players that fit that guys system, you keep doing this and twenty years from now we will have still never caught up.

I just dont understand why we haven't blitzed like the year we went to AFC Champ game. The only problem that year was that we didnt have pass rush. Now that we have somewhat of a pass rush we dont blitz at all!?!?!?!?!?

Tell me about it. Its all I ever see around these parts these days. I guess its just one of those things with a down season. Unless its Telluride he's such a downer he makes an Emo kid look happy.
