Murtha finds military progress in trip to Iraq

Warns that Iraqis must do more for their own security
Thursday, November 29, 2007
By Jerome L. Sherman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. John Murtha today said he saw signs of military progress during a brief trip to Iraq last week, but he warned that Iraqis need to play a larger role in providing their own security and the Bush administration still must develop an exit strategy.

"I think the 'surge' is working," the Democrat said in a videoconference from his Johnstown office, describing the president's decision to commit more than 20,000 additional combat troops this year. But the Iraqis "have got to take care of themselves."

Violence has dropped significantly in recent months, but Mr. Murtha said he was most encouraged by changes in the once-volatile Anbar province, where locals have started working closely with U.S. forces to isolate insurgents linked to Al Qaeda.

He said Iraqis need to duplicate that success at the national level, but the central government in Baghdad is "dysfunctional."

Mr. Murtha's four day-trip took him to a Thanksgiving dinner with troops in Kuwait last Thursday, and he then made stops in Iraq, Turkey and Belgium.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

He doesn't know what he's talking about, has no clue on what's going on.

Which traitor?

The list of generals and military types who have dared to criticize King George's Iraq policy and the prosecution of the war is so long I lose track...

The Bush cabal outs a covert CIA agent in order to lie this country into an unnecessary war and Murtha is the traitor? Nice ethics you got working there.

Once again the right wing useful idiots confuse being a loyal Bushie with being a loyal American.
Yeah, Murtha hates America so much he had Thanksgiving dinner with American troops overseas.
Think they served a plastic turkey at the meal?

I couldnt care less about his opinion on the ethics of the war...but when he accuses marines of war crimes before and during the investigation, and before they even got charged with anything...well, you talk to most marines and ask their opinion on him and they call him a traitor.

And I take it you have talked to every single American who has ever been
a United States Marines and they are in agreement. I know people who have
been in the Marines and they think Bush is an idiot.

If, in your estimation, Murtha is a "traitor" and a "prick," then why would his opinion matter to you?

Ha ha ha!

You wish it were that simple, don't you?

But the surge merely proved that Bush & Rummy sent too few soldiers in the first place.

All those years we threw men into the meat grinder, and all we had to do was add more troops?

General Shinseki suggested that before the war and they fired him for being right!

The war was never meant to be "won" - just sustained as long as possible while the profiteers who put Bush in office made bank.

And remember what the pinhead said: Iraq is just one part of a larger, open-ended "global war on terror."

Murtha makes Kennedy look like a school boy. They had this guy on tape talking about bribes before. He's a jerk who is only admitting some progress because it's so obvious he can't deny it.

Murtha has a long way to go in that area before he reaches the utter depths of the Kennedys.

And the Kennedys have a long, long, long way to go before they reach that circle of the inferno reserved for a criminal of Bush's stature.

What, before he was your savior, now he doesn't know what he's talking about? Hilarious..... .....dman

*When he was waving the liberal "point of view" he was the best thing sinced sliced bread. Why is he not now? Just like the dems, when someone outlives their usefullness, TOSS them on the pile heap, get the media to hammer them, disgrace them and move on.

If that is so, each kennedy will be shoulder to shoulder right along with Bush. Hell, I'm sure one ring has a "Kennedy Wing" sign right above it as you enter..dman

Which Kennedy sent almost 4,000 American troops to their deaths in a war whose justifications were lies?

By the way, there is no such thing as an ex-Marine.
Once a Marine, always a Marine.

NOT TRUE. If a marine leaves the marine corps under less than honorable conditions, he or she is designated thusly, an EX- MARINE. If you leave honorably, the designation is former marine. Got that straight from a combat hardened former marine who fought in Korea/Vietnam..dman

*And just to make a point, my source now considers Murtha an "EX marine" vice former marine. Apparently, according to him anyway, alot of his former marine buddies believe the same about Murtha due to his actions while holding office, disgraceful to the marine corps and all......dman

Actually, many men died in Vietnam. The US never lost a battle during Vietnam, but pullled out due to public pressure. Politicians in general, during that era, caused the needless death of thousands of american servicemen and women then pulled out.....pretty damn sad...dman
