http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7105277.stm

"The group said Ms Nasreen had "seriously hurt Muslim sentiments". Many Muslims say her writing ridicules Islam."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taslima_Nasrin

to see how horrible of a person she is.

I can't believe a reputed source like the BBC would twist 2 stories into one.

All the violence is due to the Nandigram land grab by the state goverment, they want to take away the land belonging to the farmers and turn it into a chemical factory.

The violence has nothing to do with Taslima Narseen. She's a great writer who's won several awards from the Indian goverment. The opposition to her is from the conservative Muslims in Bangladesh.

I am in Calcutta on business and am not aware of any violence due to Taslima. The army has been called to the NAdigram situation 70 kms away from Calcutta. None of the major Indian newspapers are carrying the Taslima story.

Wow, this was really fast breaking.

I am stranded in the city now with the army called in. Thankfully the curfew has just been lifted.

Its amazing BBC broke the story before local news.

"New Delhi: Two days after the government allowed her to stay on in India, controversial Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen withdrew the lines from her book, Dwikhondito. The lines were thought to be anti-Islamic."

shocker here, violence, hatred, riots and death threats work.

it is the way of radical islam, unfortunately it continues to spread. Really sad to think people are being raised and nutured into a such inhumane form of living one's life. By that, they are taught to die (martyrdom for allah) is above all, not living a prosperous life on earth while they have the opportunity. They relish death to all who oppose, and look forward to dying for allah. Not much of a life if you ask me... Very sad indeed...dman

remember the vast majority of islamic governments specifically outlaw freedom of speech and freedom of religion where it intersects with islamic belief.

I have seen instances of people speaking out against the government. But, I'll agree, it's very few overall. Pretty sad actually..dman

*Here in the US, in I believe Nevada, there is a muslim professor who is pretty much the leader in the US anyway against radical islam. Forgot his name though. Pretty sharp guy, doesn't mince words, tells it like it is...they need more of his type..dman

update: as u can imagine with violent islamic thugs. self censorship under threat of murder is not enough. now she must also apologize to muslims and islam for offending them....or be killed.

http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2...ry_182971.html

"NEW DELHI - CONTROVERSIAL Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen, who is in hiding in India after protests by Muslims, must apologise for her 'anti-Islamic' writings, a prominent Indian Muslim cleric said on Monday.
The 45-year-old writer, who fled Bangladesh in 1994, is currently living in an undisclosed location near New Delhi after being forced to leave the eastern Indian city of Kolkata last month following violent protests"
